Sophie Kryzak Korona

Sophie Kryzak Korona, 96, of Johnstown, NY, has passed away peacefully on Friday May 27th, 2016. Born on October 30th, 1919, in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of the late Elfranzina "Frieda" Cisek and Michael Kryzak. Sophie attended local schools. She married Edward P. Korona on August 11th, 1940. It was a union that lasted until his passing on April 2nd, 1990. Sophie was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church. She worked at the former Templeton Glove, at St. Mary's school as a crossing guard, and also at Coleco Industries in Amsterdam, NY. Sophie enjoyed gardening and she loved to crochet. She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking, but above all, she deeply enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sophie is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Wayne) Todd of Rochester, NY, and Judith (Larry) Dufel of Perth, NY; Her grandchildren, Christopher (Shelly) Dufel, Amy (Brian) Cullather, Scott (Lisa) Todd, and Erika Uhlinger; Her great grandchildren, Brennan Dufel, Madison Uhlinger, James Uhlinger III, Collin Cullather, Riley Cullather, Keeley Cullather, Samantha (Christopher) Baugher, Jessica Todd, and Zachary Todd. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Sophie is predeceased by her beloved husband Edward Korona, her parents Michael and Frieda Kryzak; Her sisters, Lillian Tenney, Anne Korona, Victoria Barzyk, Helen DeSorbo, and Dorothy Glimm; Her brothers, Joseph, John, and Thomas Kryzak. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4-7pm on Tuesday May 31st, 2016 at Betz, Rossi, & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A Prayer Service will be held at 10am on Wednesday June 1st, 2016 at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Stanislaus Church, 52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will immediately follow and take place at St. John's Cemetery on Widow Susan Road.
