Sophie Wanda Waclawik

Sophie Wanda Janik Waclawik passed away after a lengthy illness at 9:40 p.m. on December 1, 2015 at her home in Lompoc, California. Sophie was born to Stanislaw "Stanley" Janik and Zofia "Sophie" Hylaszek Janik on May 1, 1925 in Calumet City, Illinois. She attended local schools. Sophie met Joseph Waclawik in 1947 and they were married in 1948. The couple moved to Los Angeles and would settle in Whittier. There, their three children Carole, David and Janice were born. Sophie, Joe, Dave and Janice moved to Martinez, California in 1971 after Joe, employed by Standard Oil, was transferred to the companys Richmond refinery. Joe passed away in 1993, and Sophie moved to Lompoc in 1997 to be close to her daughter Janice and her family. Sophie was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2005, after which her daughters Carole and Janice cared for her until her death. Sophie was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Waclawik; son David; parents Stanley and Sophie Janik; brothers Matthew, Stanley, Adolph, and Lenard; and sisters Stella and Marie. Sophie is survived by her daughters Carole Patton and Janice (Dan) Michaels; grandchildren Ryan, Brina, Paul and Lauren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A private viewing will be held Wednesday, December 9 at Oak Hill Chapel in Walnut Creek, California, followed by a 2 p.m. graveside service at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Lafayette, California.
