Sou-chuan Harry Chen was born in Shanghai, China in 1914 at the end of the Qing imperial dynasty. He passed away on October 25, 2017. He endured Japanese occupation during WWII which ended in 1945. Dad, his wife, Sophia, and seven-month old Harry, Jr., flee from Communists and relocate to Canton in 1948. Communists win civil war in 1949. In 1949 they flee again with Nationalists to live in Taiwan for ten years. Attended the Program of Mutual Security held at Columbia University for the U.S. government specializing in foreign trade from 1951-1952. Emigrated with family to the U.S. in 1949. Worked at the United Nations Secretariat Building as a translator for 31 years. Becomes a naturalized U.S. citizen. With Mom, raised four sons that all went to college at his strong encouragement. Eldest son, Harry, Jr., preceded him in death. He opened our eyes by taking us on three around-the-world trips exposing us to a variety of people and cultures. Espoused on us a life of moderation. Commissioned Harry, Jr. to design two wonderful custom homes, one in the Hudson River Valley and one in the Rocky Mountains. He lived through a century of discoveries and innovations from horse and carriage to space flight. He enjoyed a remarkable forty-two years of retirement. He is survived by his wife Sophia, and three sons, Michael, Roger and Arthur. His grandchildren are Sammy, Carissa, Alana, Sophia, Elise, Jarrett and Brandon. A memorial service will be held on Friday November 3, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Falconer Funeral Home in Gilbert, Arizona. He will be interred at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona.
