SSGT "Vinny" Vincent P. Oare
October 18th, 1944 - April 11th, 2017
Vincent "Vinny" Paul Oare, Sr., 72, of Gloversville passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Born October 18, 1944 in Albany, he was the son of the late Claude and Marie Earley. Vinny was a proud Army and Air Force veteran dedicating almost 20 years of service to our country. He served several tours in Vietnam where he received numerous awards and decorations for his faithful service. Vinny was an animal lover and was known to many as "The Cat Man". Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years Prudence Sparks Oare of Gloversville; daughters Jennifer Young (Donald) of Mayfield and Patricia Oare-Fonda of Gloversville; son Vincent P. Oare, Jr. (Jeanette) of Newport, TN; grandchildren Andrew, Nicklaus, Justin, Kristopher, Emmillee, Tori, Jacob, Julianna, Austin and Alison; step-granddaughters Aiofe Hammersmith (Otto) of NC, Sandy Lill (Matt) of NC and Nicolle Lymn of Gloversville; great granddaughter Eliannah; step great-grandson Thor; sisters Sharon Gray, Janet Simek and Cathy Simondson (Arnie) and brothers Brian Sweet and Levi Sweet. Vinny is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his brother Harold Sweet. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 11-12 P.M. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A service to celebrate Vinnny's life will take place on Saturday, 12 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Merle Hock officiating. Burial will military honors will be held at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Vinny's memory to the Fisher House, 111 Rockville Pike #420 Rockville, MD 20850 or online at www.fisherhouse.org/about/ Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
