Stan William Carey at the age of 90 years old, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, Carol (Jensen); his Daughter: Kathy Chikes, his Son: Mike Carey, his Daughter: Colleen Brown, his Daughter: Michelle Damkroger, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, along with many close friends and colleagues. Born and raised in Santa Clara, he was the son of William and Dorothy Carey and brother to Marlene. Stan graduated from Santa Clara High School. Following, he joined the Navy during WWII and was stationed on the U.S.S. Barnstable. During his service, he was deployed to the Philippines and was in the Pacific when Hiroshima was bombed. In 1949 he married the love of his life, Carol Audrey Jensen and proceeded to raise his four children in Santa Clara. In 1950 Stan dedicated his life to the Santa Clara police force and served for 32 years. He was Badge #11 and started out walking the beat on Franklin Street. During this time with the department, Stan graduated from the FBI Command College, was a recipient of the J. Edgar Hoover award, started SCAT, (Special Crimes Action Team), was Captain of the Patrol Division and in 1965 he was the first and youngest Captain of Detectives to ever be appointed for Santa Clara Police Department. Stan held the highest ethical standards as a leader for SCPD, selflessly serving his community. In 1991 he and his wife, Carol moved to Vista, California to a golf community where he spent his days golfing, playing cards, and enjoying good friends. Stan was a loving husband and beloved role model for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed. A Memorial service will be held with honors on Monday, August 28th at 9:30am at Willamette National Cemetary in Portland, Oregon. Immediately following the 30 minute honors tribute at the cemetary, there will be a celebration of his life at the home of Willis and Michelle Damkroger, 18026 Skyland Circle, Lake Oswego, OR 97034.
