Stanley Edward Jones
August 18th, 1935 - October 17th, 2012
Stanley Jones was born on August 18, 1935, in Newport, Rhode Island, to John and Jeannette Jones. John passed away over 20 years ago and Jeannette passed away in 2011. John and Jeannette had 4 children, Dorothy Jones, who passed away in 1987, Walter Jones of Boston, Massachusetts, and Carol McMurray of Homosassa, Florida. Stan’s parents moved the family to Malden, Massachusetts where he attended school and was an altar boy at church. At the age of 17 he joined the Navy and served for 4 years until he was honorably discharged. Stan was stationed at Fort Warden near Port Townsend, where he met his wife, Peggy Roske on a blind date and they were married on September 30, 1955. They moved to Hawaii where Stan was stationed and lived there until 1956 when he was discharged. Stan and Peggy returned to Washington State and began their family of 7 children. Debbie Summers of Tacoma, Sharon Faust of Kansas (husband Charlie), Jeff of Tacoma, who passed away in 2011, Bob of California, (wife Deena), Mike of Bonney Lake (wife Shari) Bruce of Tacoma (wife Kim and best friend Steve Brickelson), and Tina Pulich of Fircrest (significant other Robert). Stan and Peggy had 12 Grandchildren - Debbie’s children are Liz, Nancy, and Dale Summers. Bruce’s children are Shannon and Amber Jones. Mike’s children are Josh and Heather Jones. Sharon’s children are Eric and Kevin Faust. Bob’s daughter is Taylor Jones, and Tina’s children are Casey and Cody Pulich. They also have 5 great-grandchildren- Liz’s children are Lauren and Nicholas, Shannon has two children and Heather’s son is Ryder. Stan was an entrepreneur and involved the family in several business ventures, including balloon bouquets deliveries, fireworks and novelty sales. Stan was a regular fixture at Point Defiance as the “original Balloon Man” as well as the Puyallup Fair (hey who hasn’t made a Do-Dah Bird). Stan traveled around the state to various events selling souvenirs. Stan even tried the restaurant business for several years. But because he liked to eat much better than he liked to cook, he got out of the restaurant business and back into the souvenir business. Stan was a huge sports fan and sold souvenirs at many events including the Sonics Playoffs, world cup championships and at the “Goodwill Games”. Stan would attend children’s parties dressed as “Chewbacca”, Christmas Parties dressed as “Santa Claus” and Eastern parties dressed as the Easter Bunny. He also worked for the Postal Service from 1960-1967 delivering mail, and then went back to school to get his electricians license and went back to work for the Postal Service at the Bulk Mail Center as a Mail Maintenance Engineer from 1975 until 1996, when he retired. Stan, never able to sit still, went to work part-time after retirement as a car lot driver, shuttling cars back and forth to different car lots and at Shuttle Express driving travelers to the airport. Eventually, he decided to be retired completely and attend to his true love – his wife, his little farm with his cats and raccoons and casino gambling. Stan passed away on Wednesday, October 17, with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 16, at 2:00 pm at the Lakeview Chapel, 4606 108th St SW, Lakewood, WA. Anyone who would like to attend, please feel free to do so.The family would like to remind everyone to please stop smoking.
