Stanley "Steve" Niznik
April 27th, 1917 - August 25th, 2012
Mr. Stanley "Steve" Niznik, age 95, of Gloversville, died Saturday evening, August 25, 2012 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home in Gloversville. He was born April 27, 1917 in Utica, the son of the late Felix and Mary Gacek Niznik. He attended Saint Stanislaus School in Utica and then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at age 17 for three years. He came to Gloversville in 1938 and worked at Gloversville Continental Mills, Fulton County Oil Company, American Locomotive in Schenectady, Brunswick Radio Corp; Decca Records and MCA Record Company where he retired in 1997 as a forklift operator after 41 years of service. Steve was married to Thelma Dutcher on September 30, 1939. She died May 14, 1996. He is survived by: two sons, William Niznik Diane of Gloversville and James Niznik Andrea of Effingham, IL; a brother and a sister, Matthew Niznik and Jennie Biernat of Utica. Also surviving are three granddaughters: Lori Reed, Kelly Bochenek and Deborah Wittenberg; six great-grandchildren: Garrett Reed, Brittany Reed, Brian Bochenek, Brent Bochenek, Alicia Wittenberg and Mackenzie Wittenberg; a great-great-granddaughter, Annabelle Reed and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his two beloved cats, Hobo and Hobo, Jr. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 28 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.
