Jeanine Serrano (Alyssa's Swim Coach)

Candle lit by Jeanine Serrano (Alyssa's Swim Coach) I feel grateful for having known you over the last 7 years. You have always been a swim parent that I could rely on to help in any way that was needed. You were always there to take a seat in the timing chairs at the meets. Always offering the swimmers in your lane a smile and a "Nice Job!" at the completion of their race. You were there to help move me into my new house and were there when the pools needed to be saved. I will miss the quick 5:30 morning conversations that we had as you dropped Alyssa off for morning practices. WheneverI hear the scores of a Packer game I will always think of you.

Star inspired others to do more because he set an example of going out of his way to help people and volunteering an incredible amount of his time. He never hesitated to help our family by giving Emily rides to school and swimming activities. We will miss his friendly personality and the easy-going way we could always pick up a conversation with him. Star was truly an inspirational person.

Star, we've lived only 6 houses from you and have admired how you remodeled and built your family a wonderful home. I wish we had gotten to know you better, but we could tell you were a good man. We have also seen you at swim meets when our daughters were there. As you watch out for your family from above, rest assured that many you have touched will assuredly watch out for your family down here. Rest in peace and embraced in love.

Sumiko (Sumi) Fuji

Candle lit by Sumiko (Sumi) Fuji You were my biggest playmate and devoted companion. You never turned down my challenges to wrestle on the family room floor, play tug-a-war with my favorite toy, or play catch-me-if-you-can. You never failed to notice my constant need for belly rubs or a scratch behind my ears. You switched from Costco polish dogs to hot dogs just for me, as they were to spicy for my little tummy, seeing as you always saved me your last bite of hot dog. Your giant heart could not resist my batting eyelashes when I begged for human food, you always slipped me a tidbit so mommy wouldn't see. You never complained when your arm went numb from holding me so I could see out the car window. You included me in all the family activities, trips and swim meets. You always made room for me at the end of the bed or on your lap. There's never been a day I haven't thanked my lucky stars that you and Alyssa selected me to be the youngest Fuji. I will always remember your loving gentleness and willingness to please. Forever your four-legged best friend.

Star - God Bless - your unending friendship will continue to shine brightly in my life, just as it has since meeting you so many swim seasons ago. From long afternoons together in the stands and on deck to even longer monthly board meetings, from out-of-town weekends with our families to fundraising events at home, from countless team celebrations to the heartfelt words and sincere smiles we shared alone, ours has been a genuine and cherished relationship. You were always quick with both wit and wisdom, sharing both effortlessly and with grace. Together with Janelle and Alyssa (and, most recently, with Sumi), your family radiates love, friendship, kindness, joy, humor, acceptance, peace – we are better for our lives together. May eternity be a blessing.

The past 25 years have been filled with kindness, love, appreciation, devotion, loyalty and respect. You are my best friend and soul mate. Your early departure from my life will leave a void that can not be refilled. Memories of your infectious smile, quick dry wit, your gentle touch, and warm caress will be forever in my heart until we are reunited. Me too.

Ben, Kate & Max Test

As backyard neighbors for eight years, I will miss Star's smiling face on the other side of the fence, and our frequent over the fence conversations. It always made me happy to see Max sitting on the fence chatting and watching you work in the backyard; and you were always happy to multi-task between your project and conversations with Max. Max always enjoyed the time spent with you afterschool during his first years at Bridgeport, and it was comforting to know he was in the care of such a positive influence with a big heart. Upon hearing the news last week, our hearts dropped, because it was always apparent what a tight knit loving family you shared. Janelle & Allysa, please know that our hearts are with you during this tough time, and we are just over the fence if you need a hug, conversation or help with anything-anytime.

There is no word that expresses sorrow and joy in the same time. I never missed a hug or a smile from Star during a swim meet in the last 3 years – he brought us joy, and comfort to our kids. Now we’re filled with sorrow because we realize what we lost, and people that never met him missed their chance to know a great person, a super dad and a wonderful husband. Star, you did wonders for the people around you. Alyssa is just like you, and she will continue to follow your steps, and together with Janelle will cherish the life and memories that you had together. Thank you for your kindness, your smile and mostly for your friendship. You’ll be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

It was pleasure knowing Starr. You can tell a lot about a person by the way their child looks up to them. He was a stronger supporter of his daughter who loves swimming, by devoting a lot of his time helping her swim club. Our family has spent lots of time with him at swim practices, meets and events and it has always been nice to see a smiling face always willing to lend a hand. We can’t tell you how sad it is for our family who is going miss such a wonderful person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Janelle and Alyssa.

I feel extremely blessed and priviledged to have spent my first fifteen and a half years on this earth with the greatest Daddy. You were my greatest cheerleader, supporter, and my best friend. I inspire to apply the same motivation, dedication, work ethic, and passionate drive that you exhibited in all facets of your life. Your attitude to do things 100%, never half-heartedly, will guide me to become a person of character, high morals, and integrity. I will miss our inside jokes and playful teasing, our shared passion for Packer football and Cal Berkeley. We were the biggest cheeseheads. You made me feel like a queen, spoiling me with the latest gadgets and flashy shoes. Your sense of humor taught me how to laugh, your spontaneous smile made me warm inside, and your huge heart taught me how to love. You are forever instilled in my heart and everything I do. I love you so much daddy dodo; you are my hero.
