Stephen W. Oare
January 14th, 1947 - February 12th, 2005
Stephen W. Oare, Sr., 58, of Johnstown, died Saturday, February 12, 2005 at home after a long illness. He was born in Johnstown, NY on January 4, 1947, the son of the late Robert and Carrie Rouse Oare. He attended Johnstown schools and earned a G.E. D. while serving in the U.S. Army. He was a Viet Nam veteran, earning the rank of Corporal. Mr. Oare was employed at area tanneries and as a truck driver and forklift operator for many years. He is survived by two children: Stephen W. Oare Jr. and his wife Cheryl, of Broadalbin, and Melissa Baker and her husband Marc, of Johnstown, and siblings Robert Oare Jr. of New Jersey, Darrell Oare of Dolgeville, Hettie Kipp of Natick, MA and Bonnie Handy of Lyles, Tennesee. He is also survived by grandchildren Stephen Jay and Nicholas Oare, and Emmalee and Ashlee Baker, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 16 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Freemont Street, Gloversville. A graveside service will take place Thursday, February 17 at 10 a.m. at Fern Dale Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Stratton VA Medical Center, C/O Volunteer Services for Patient Needs, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, NY 12228.
