Bermudez Family Cremations & Funerals
Steven Long
June 23rd, 1982 - January 27th, 2017
Steven Carl Long (1982-2017), age 34. Steven was born in Bakersfield, California to Carl and Lisa Long. He went home to be with the Lord, January 27, 2017 after a car accident. Steven was profoundly dedicated to his family, especially his son, Michael. His greatest passions in life were being a father, serving the Lord, and just being a Marine. He served his country in the USMC as a combat veteran, through two deployments, Operation Enduring, and Iraqi Freedom. He truly lived by the saying “Once a Marine, Always a Marine.” He was medically disabled. He valued education. He received associate degrees in liberal studies and criminal justice, and had recently graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in business administration. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, singing karaoke, and just hanging out with friends. Steven’s faith was very strong, and he ultimately became a chaplain with Healing Word International Ministries. He took the instruction of, “Go ye unto the corners of the earth and spread the gospel to all,” literally. His personality was certainly diverse, as those who knew him will attest. Steven was kind, generous, protective, fun-loving, and always had your back. He was very opinionated, and not shy to tell you so. He was known as Walker, Country, Dagum, Superman, and Preacher, for many reasons. Steven was famous for finishing most salutations with the phrase, “I appreciate ‘cha.” He has, and will continue to touch many, many lives. He is at home now. He is survived by his son, Michael Long of Bakersfield, parents Lisa & Briggs Latham of Seaside, CA. and Carl and Jeanette Long of Bakersfield, CA, his brother, Ryan Long of Bakersfield, his sister, Krysten Schweighart of Bakersfield, grandmother, Caroline Long of Taft, CA., many aunts, uncles, cousins, and brother-at-heart, Michael Cummings. Steven truly considered all he knew to be family. He was preceded in death by both grandfathers, one grandmother, and a dear cousin.
