Steven J McDonald
July 21st, 1943 - August 10th, 2022
Steve was born in Yakima, Washington to John and Evelyn McDonald. When he was a few months old, the family moved to Ames, Iowa where he was raised with his sisters Sheri, Jacki, Pam and brother John. Steve and DeLorise (Dee) Kay McDonald met in High School. They married and moved to Portland, Oregon where Steve attended Advertising Art School. Steve graduated from Advertising Art School in 1964 in Commercial Art and Illistration. He started his career at Security Sign Inc. as sign designer in fall of 1964. He designed many of the signs still being used today in the Portland, SW Washington area. His role grew with the company over the years leading design and sales efforts for the company. Steve retired in the fall of 2002 after 38 years. Steve and Dee were blessed with two sons, Michael Todd McDonald and Steven Craig McDonald, and they were the light of his life. In his younger years Steve loved working on old cars, notably old Chevys! He belonged to the Late Great Chevy Club along with his brother John. He loved golfing (became close to a scratch golfer), Fishing, Basketball, recieved his private pilots license and flew recreationally for a few years. He volunteered on the restoration of the Patrol Torpedo Boat 658. He also spent time on the SP 4449 steam locomotive. In his later years, Steve was dedicated to his grandkids. He attended every grandkid's sporting event from when they first started playing through high school. He would never miss a game. Steve and Dee enjoyed traveling. Hawaii, Mexico, Turks & Caicos, France, England and Ireland were some of their favorites. Steve was an avid Oregon Ducks Fan and was becoming an Arizona State fan - grandkids Michael and Ryan both UO grads and Katelyn a sophomore at ASU nursing school in Arizona. Steve is better known as Bumpa or Bumps to his grandkids. Steve is survived by his wife Dee McDonald; Son/Daughter-in-law: Steve & Kelly McDonald; Grandchildren: Michael/grad-daughter in law: Ashley, Ryan & Katelyn. Sister Jacki Biwer and all neices and nephews. Steve was preceeded in death by his father: John Warren McDonald; Sisters: Sheri Roman; Pam Banks; Brother: John McDonald. In lieu of flowers, the McDonald Family requests that you support Discover Your Forest, a local nonprofit that is dedicated to promoting the discovery of the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and Crooked River National Grassland by enriching the experiance of visitors, building community support and creating the next generation of environmental stewards.
