Steven Scott Walton
January 1st, 1970 - January 20th, 2015
Jan. 1, 1970 – Jan. 20, 2015 Resident of Santa Cruz Steven Walton, beloved son and compassionate friend, passed away peacefully at his Santa Cruz residence following a very brief illness. Born in Los Gatos, California, he was 45 years old. Steve accomplished many things in this life, regardless of the number of years he was here with us. He overcame huge obstacles that robbed him of good health, when he was hit by a motorist while on his bicycle, and later, was able to advocate for himself to be a resident of Grace Commons in Santa Cruz where he made many acquaintances. At the time of his death, Steve was in the process of earning his degree in Psychology, and had completed the necessary courses at William Jessup University to work as a drug addiction counselor. Steve was a talented photographer and loved to take his camera on hikes. He was a true explorer and avid outdoorsman. His friends and family will forever cherish the many memories of his long walks up and around Mt. Hamilton, Fremont Peak, and around the Lexington Reservoir. His travels took him much farther than the boundaries of California, as he made many road journeys throughout the country. He was interested in architecture, history and the different lifestyles that he observed; his curiosity compelling him to learn and appreciate all people and their cultures. He loved visiting different museums of art and history.A favorite story that his family will always enjoy, was Steve's fascination of the Greek Orthodox Church, its art, and history. Although not a member of the church, he asked for, and received a tour by the pastor of Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Santa Cruz. He will be missed and forever loved by his parents, Russ and Dianne Walton of San Juan Bautista, his surviving sisters Kimberly and Dana, his niece Jenna, grandfather Robert Biendle, and his daughter Sierra. Steve loved all animals, especially cats. Any kind acts of charity in his memory can be made to Project Purr- 325 Front Street Santa Cruz, CA. 95060. A private committal is under the direction of Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel. If you would like to leave a thought or a memory for his family, please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com
