Steven Alan Whallen

WHALLEN, Steven Alan, 67, of Land O’ Lakes, Florida passed away September 16, 2018. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1992, and then settled in Land O’ Lakes in 1995. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in journalism, worked for FedEx for over 20 years, and became a proud business owner of Affordable Home Inspection of Tampa Bay, Inc. for the last 13 years. Steve was also a devout Catholic who attended Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church and a very active member of the Knights of Columbus. In his younger years, he was a member of ROTC and an Eagle Scout. Steve was also recognized by the Governor of Kentucky who bestowed the honor of “Kentucky Colonel” upon him. This is the highest title of honor awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Commissions for Kentucky Colonels are given by the governor and the secretary of state to individuals in recognition of noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to a community, state or the nation. Steve’s favorite past times included playing golf and volleyball, vacationing, traveling, and singing karaoke. He absolutely loved country music. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister, Diane Yvonne. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Mary Ann; sons, Kevin Whallen, Ryan Whallen and his wife, Kimberly; daughters, Anita Willets, Brenda McClellan; brother, Donald Whallen and his wife, Petrina; sister, Janice Douglass; his grandchildren, Jackson, Oliver, Ashley, Marisa, Caroline, Kayla, and one on the way due in March; and his great grandchildren, Jadrian, Jayceon, and one on the way due in March. A funeral mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday September 22, 2018 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a wake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday September 21, 2018 at Loyless Funeral Home in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Steve’s honor to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church
