Steven John White
February 27th, 1956 - February 29th, 2020
Steven John White of Mukilteo WA passed away peacefully and unexpectedly, at the age of 64, on Saturday, February 29, 2020 of an acute inflammatory lung disease at Swedish Edmonds Hospital, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving partner Marilou Moore; his son and daughter Jonathan Steven White, and Jackie Taylor White (Jacob Roney); Julia (McCann) White, his first wife and mother of his children; Marilou’s son Matthew Moore; his sister Susan (White) McLean (Alistair); his brothers Gordon White (Heather Crandall) and Allan White; nieces and nephews, to whom he was affectionately known as Uncle Banana, Sarah Lawson (Mark), Scott McLean (Danielle Ambs), Katie Power (Draydan), Elizabeth White, Tom White, Eric White, Katrina White, Henry Lawson, Rachel Lawson, and Adella Power. He was preceded by his parents, John and Marion (Hanson) White and his brother, David White. Steve was born in London, Ontario, Canada on February 27, 1956 and lived there until moving with his family to Port Moody, BC, Canada at the age of 10. He attended school there before starting his post secondary education at UBC where he obtained a B.Ed. in math and computer science and a M.Sc. in computer science. After this, he went on to study at graduate school at MIT in Boston. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and when young his friends teased that he was the poster boy for a professional student. His career began at UBC, but he soon after moved to the US, where he lived and worked in Boston, MA; San Mateo, CA; Woodinville, WA, and Mukilteo, WA. Steve worked in various IT positions, primarily as a senior product manager; he was an extremely intelligent man and was diligent and highly respected in his field. Although Steve’s work was important to him, and he really enjoyed it, his main passion in his life was his family and close friends. He loved nothing more than spending time with them, and was always stressing the importance of family, loving one another, and staying close. In particular, he loved skiing, dancing, music (especially playing his guitar and drums), and travelling. We will especially miss his kindness and generosity to others, his many stories, and his wonderful sense of humour, which stayed with him until the end. It was his wish that we not cry because he is gone, but to be happy that he was here. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the kind and caring staff in the ICU and IMCU at Swedish Hospital in Edmonds. They made Steve comfortable and cared for him exceedingly well, while also supporting his family. We are very grateful for this. A celebration of life and dance will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 7-10 pm at Matthews Winery in Woodinville, WA (16116 140th Place NE,), which was a special and favourite place of Steve’s. It was his wish that it be held there, and he promised he would be there with us in spirit. RSVP to Jackie at [email protected] This is especially important in case of a postponement due to the current world health crisis. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Steve’s name to either the American Lung Association or the Canadian Lung Association. Please feel free to share your stories of Steve, especially the humourous ones at [email protected] We will have a book made up to share. A block of rooms is being held at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Woodinville, WA. “If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.” – Jane Austen, Emma “Children are the only form of immortality that we can be sure of.” – Peter Ustinov
