Stuart E. Ryder
November 2nd, 1931 - December 5th, 2004
" Stuart E. Ryder, 73, of Westover Rd., died December 5 at Mercy Hospital. Born in Brimfield, November 2, 1931 and was the son of the late Harry and Martha (Thompson) Ryder. He grew up in Southbridge and lived in Chicopee for the past 44 years. He served his country as a medic in the Army during the Korean War and later worked for Spalding Corp. in Chicopee for 40 years before retiring in 1998. A simple man, Stuart enjoyed spending time with his family, playing bingo, satisfying his sweet tooth, and enjoying the outdoors. He was predeceased by his former wife, Cecile (Beaulieu) Ryder who died in 2000. He will be deeply missed by his three daughters Christine and her husband Matthew Caney of Monson, Kathleen and her husband Clifford Collins of Chicopee, Deborah and her husband Albert Czupkiewicz, Jr of Westfield, his two sons, Ronald Ryder and his girlfriend Rachel Allard of Monson, Steven and his wife Suzanne Ryder of South Hadley. He is also survived by his 14 grand children and 11 great grandchildren, along with his sister Josephine Shaffer of FL. A funeral service will be Friday, December 10 at 10:00 a.m. in the Beers & story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St, (Rte 116) followed by burial with military honors in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Chicopee. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to: VNA & Hospice of Western New England 50 Maple St. Springfield, MA 01104."
