Susan Austin Craig

Susan Austin Craig, 67 of Charlotte, passed away at home on July 19, 2022. Susan was born on March 9, 1955 and was the daughter of the late Floyd and Estelle Hartsell Austin. She was predeceased by her husband George Thomas (Tom) Craig and is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Belle Craig Thomas, Belles husband Ben Thomas, granddaughter Evangeline Jade Thomas and brother, Dale Austin. Susan completed her bachelors degree at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in Radio, Television and Motion Picture Production. She began her career writing copy for local Charlotte radio stations. Not long afterward she was employed as a producer for WRET and WPCQ (now WCNC) Television Stations in Charlotte, where she primarily wrote and produced television ads. Occasionally featured in those TV Ads were Belle, her nephews Adam and Andrew as well as her beloved golden lab, Lukas (the Furniture Mans flying dog). Later, Susan moved on to write and produce advertisements exclusively for Belks Department Stores. After stepping away from the advertising business, Susan found work with another passion of hers, as a librarian. Susan loved books and reading, something she inherited from her mother. When in the summer of 2021 her husband of 34 years passed away after an extended illness, Susan began to struggle with her own health issues. Through all, she was dedicated to her much-loved daughter and especially her granddaughter Eva who will miss her greatly. A celebration of life will be held on Friday July 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm at J.B.Tallent Funeral Home, 1937 North Sharon Amity Rd. in Charlotte.
