Susan Jane Fernandez

Fernandez, Susan Jane, (nee Ferguson) 78, of Clearwater passed away July 8, 2024 at home.  She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Alma Ferguson and brother Dennis Ferguson. She is survived by her brother Harry Scott Ferguson (Beth), sister Sally Quale, brother Nicholas Ferguson, nieces Heather Ferguson, Andrea Ferguson, Jerrilou Daez Fujimoto, and Joanne Daez and nephew John Ferguson. Born in Ashland, Kentucky she and her family moved to Gulfport in 1959 and she graduated from Boca Ciega High School.  Susan obtained an Associate Degree at St. Petersburg Junior College, finished her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from the University of South Florida (USF) and her PHD from University of Florida (UF).  She worked at USF Tampa for many years as a student advisor. As a professor of history at State University of New York (SUNY), Plattsburgh and USF, St. Petersburg, Dr. Fernandez specialized in Latin American studies.  She published two books and numerous articles and reviews.  After retiring from teaching, Susan’s passions were glass art and paper quilling. She was a very smart, funny, caring, talented, and generous woman. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
