Susan "Suzi" Weiss
April 11th, 1968 - June 16th, 2021
Susan “Suzi” Laurie Weiss passed away quietly on Wednesday July 16th at the age of 53 while surrounded by friends and loved ones at her home in St Petersburg, Florida. Susan was diagnosed with an aggressive Glioblastoma in July 2020 which eventually took her from this life and on to her next journey. Like everything else in her life, Susan was a fierce competitor and fought this last battle with the heart of a warrior. She endured brain surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and many other treatments in effort to fight this disease and never complained, not once. She was the bravest and most fearless individual. Susan’s professional life in the field of Occupational Therapy was simply legendary. With her exceptional creativity and intelligence, she developed innovative educational materials to reach the masses. Eventually, her “handprint” extended to Asia, Australia, North and South America, Europe and Africa. People across the globe continue to credit her with their success in hand therapy. The hundreds of emails, cards, Facebook posts and phone calls thanking Susan for her devotion to the field of Hand Therapy are a testament to her commitment and love for her work. Yet, despite her overwhelming success, Suzie remained quietly humble, overwhelmingly generous and committed to the success of everyone. Suzie loved the water (boating, kayaking, fishing, scuba diving) dancing and art. She was also an avid world traveler and outdoor adventurer; skydiving, paragliding off the Swiss Alps, hiking through rain forests and night diving with manta rays. Nothing was too scary for this adventure seeker. She is survived by her husband (Steve McLean), her mother (Nanci Weiss), four children (Jake, Ben, Brooke, and Fisher Weiss) three stepsons (Brandon Weiss, Justin Weiss, and Steven McLean) and stepdaughter (Katie McLean). She loved and adored each and everyone. This heavy load of grief is easier to bear by your many warm and touching comments. The family will be creating a digital and physical scrapbook in remembrance of her. If you would like to share any personal thoughts, photos or memories of your interactions with Suzi you can email those to the family at [email protected] or to her husband’s email [email protected] Suzie was treated by a dedicated, caring, and cutting-edge team of medical professionals.
