Suzanne Elizabeth Smith
May 20th, 1962 - July 18th, 2024
Suzanne Elizabeth Smith age 62 went to be with the Lord on 18 July 2024. She passed away unexpectedly after a routine surgery. She courageously battled Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) for nearly 9 years.
She was born in Woodford, Greater London on the 20th of May 1962. Chorleywood, Hertfordshire became her home when she was 10 months old where she attended a local Primary school at 5 years old, and then went on to Senior school at the age of 12 years.
After she left Senior school she applied to a Modelling Agency in Bond Street, London, but alas she was deemed too short. Having left the Modelling agency, she trained as a Dental nurse at a local Dental practice and later worked with a Dental Surgeon at University College Hospital, London.
In 1985 Suzanne married Alexander Stewart and went to live in Alconbury, Cambridgeshire. In 1987 Samantha was born and in 1990 Craig was born. Unfortunately, her marriage ended in divorce
In 1997 she married and moved to the US for a better life for her two children Samantha and Craig. Eventually she made her way to San Antonio, TX and her marriage again ended in divorce. Here she made the decision to add to her family by adopting Chloe from Seoul, South Korea as a single mom.
She attracted the attention of an airman (Alvin Smith) who became her friend, husband and love of her life and she his. They had over 21 years of excitement and adventure together traveling back to England and all over the US. Her love of life brought happiness to all that were around her.
She taught pre-school at First Baptist Church, Universal City, TX for over 10 years until having to resign due to CIDP. She battled the disease for almost 9 years receiving treatments every 3 weeks to counter the effects of the disease. She did not give up, and lived life to its fullest between treatments, working in her garden, building crafts, fishing, trips to the beach and keeping track of the latest Hallmark movies, which she adored because of their happy endings.
Moving to Summerville, SC in 2020 she discovered her love of fishing and would be out on the boat every chance she could. In between trips to beach and fishing, building her doll house and making crafts for the family would occupy her time. Her English accent which she never lost was always a great talking point when she met new people.
Suzanne is survived by her husband Alvin Smith, her mother Maureen Flintan of the UK, brother Robert Flintan (Alison) of the UK and brother Paul Flintan of Switzerland.
She was very proud of her children, daughter Samantha Stewart of Sebring FL, son Craig Stewart (Kristen) of San Antonio TX, daughter Chloe Smith of Summerville SC, stepsons Tyler Smith of Edwards AFB CA, and Hunter Furman Smith of Las Vegas NV.
She is also survived by her granddaughter Gabriella Stewart, and grandsons Chester, Lincoln and Tristan Smith.
Everyone in the family knew who her favorite child was, Lily her service dog for over 9 years. Her love of her homeland England stayed with her forever and she celebrated many royal events. Her smile and English humor will be surely missed by all her friends and family.
A special thank you to the nurses of Optum Infusion for their compassionate service and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made Dorchester Paws Animal Shelter Summerville SC. A private Celebration of Life will be held on 10 Aug 2024 at her home in Summerville.
