Tamia Monique Rochester

June 5th, 1973 - August 15th, 2024

Tamia “Tammy” Monique Rochester was born on June 5, 1973, in North Babylon, New York. She fell asleep in death on August 15, 2024, in Lexington, Kentucky. Tammy was the fourth of seven children born to Sidney Rochester and Constance Taylor.

Tammy graduated from Amityville Memorial High School in, Amityville, New York. She had three children she absolutely adored: Dominique, Darius, and Cassias. She went on to study cosmetology at Craven County Community College in New Bern, North Carolina. As one of the best, she practiced her profession for nearly 30 years.

Tammy always recognized her spiritual need which grew deeper as she got older. On July 18, 2009, she symbolized this with her baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed teaching others about Jehovah where her “chair was her territory.” When she became sick, her territory was the hospital where she would talk to the nurses, doctors, techs, and anyone who would listen to her. Tammy knew the wonderful hope for the future, and she wanted everyone else to know too.

Tammy loved her family – especially her grandkids. She was full of life and expressed this to others through her love for cooking, entertainment, and lots of laughter. She was a people-person who never met a stranger, and most times became their “therapist.” She loved music and her favorite place to be was the beach, or anywhere with the sun. She was a fashionista who stayed fly and accessorized.

Tammy was known for her famous phrases which included: “they were on it”, “not for nothing”, “when I tell you”, “are you serious?”, “shut up”, and “don’t get me to lying.”

Tammy was preceded in death by her father; Sidney Rochester and one sister: Tatia Rochester.

She is survived by her mother, Constance Taylor; three children: Dominique Greene-McEachern (Christopher), Darius Parker, and Cassias Parker (Jessica); two grandsons: Zayden McEachern and Na’Zir Parker; five brothers and sisters: Philip Rochester (Shawna), Kimberly Colque (Nicolas), Kata Davis (Melvin), Constance Brown (Nathaniel), and Sydney Rochester (Tumarshaw); one nephew William Roberts and two nieces, Mikayla Rochester and Jordan Rochester, and a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1834 Louisville Road, Frankfort, KY 40601 with Corey Sanders officiating. A gathering will follow at Clark Legacy Center at 3000 Versailles Road, Frankfort, KY 40601 from 1:00 p.m.– 3:00 p.m.

Tammy will be buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort, KY.

What is your favorite memory shared with Tamia?

Every year, no matter how near our far apart we were, we watched the Academy Awards broadcast together for a long as I can remember. We went to see the movie Ray when it opened and I will always remember the quiet way the entire audience left the theater together, crying. The next group coming in asked us, " was it good?" Tammy and I both said soberly, "yes."

Tammy's smile lights up a room! I first met Tammy as my neighbor we quickly became friends, hairdresser, and my sister! Tammy made you feel seen, heard and loved! Anyone that ever had a encounter with her can tell you. That was her loving personality. Tammy and I spoke on the phone for hours laughing and talking about everything. She would say GIRL let me tell you! When she said that it was deep .. lol. Our friendship grew to a sisterhood. We would talk about life, our children, scriptures, everything. She always has an encouraging word for you. We watch movies, tv shows, concerts and even took trips together. I met her family she met mine they loved her like I do!I have many memories of my sister! She will be miss deeply! I will celebrate her life in memories I have of her I will carry her with me in my heart! To Tammy's children THANK YOU for letting your mother be sunshine in our lives THANK YOU for sharing her! Kata Thank You for allowing me to share your sister. This one hurts. 🥺 Miss Tammy did me and my sister’s hair for YEARS. We followed her to whatever salon she worked in from her Innovative Styles days until Miss Ann-G opened hers. Her obituary says “her chair was her territory,” and I’d hate when I got into trouble around the time for our hair appointments. She’d know as soon as I walked into the shop that something was going on, and she’d give me a tongue-lashing just about as fierce as what I’d already gotten at home. I had just been thinking about getting her address from Miss Ann-G so I could send some pics of the girls. I hate that she never got to meet them. At least I can have peace in knowing that you’re not in any more pain. I love you, Miss Tammy. 🕊️♥️

What words would you use to describe Tamia?

Tammy had such a warm spirit. There was never a time that we saw each other and she wasn't laughing and smiling about something. Her laughter was contagious and I loved every minute of it ! She will truly be missed. Rest well beautiful lady.
