Tanis Larson
June 11th, 1935 - July 21st, 2017
Tanis Train Larson June 11, 1935 - July 21, 2017 Tanis Larson passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21st, surrounded by her family. She was born in Gridley, California, on June 11th, 1935, to Burt and Martha Train. She met the love of her life, Norman Larson, while attending Chico State to become an elementary school teacher. They began their journey of 61 happily married years together on June 10th, 1956 and Chico became home. Tanis and Norm raised their family of three girls on their almond ranch, along with their many beloved dogs and horses. They worked very hard, but always together. Tanis was the "trucker" during harvest delivering in-shell almonds to the plant, probably the proudest job she had besides raising her family. Tanis was active all her life. Family time was spent camping, backpacking, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and traveling. She was an accomplished seamstress and shared her skills as a 4-H leader. She made many quilts for her kids and grandkids which will be cherished for years to come. She was an avid reader and could always recommend a good book if asked. Her outgoing personality and zest for life attracted a wide and varied circle of friends. She maintained an active social life going to lunch monthly with the "Birthday Girls", and "Margarita Monday" gals, she played in several bridge groups, were members in Dance Club, Eastern Star, Back Country Horsemen, and the Butte Meadows Hill Sliders, not to leave out their travel buddies and horse friends. Her happiest places were with Norm watching the horses in the pasture on the back deck at the ranch or on the deck of their special cabin in Butte Meadows. Her happiest times were spent watching her grandkids grow up. She will be so dearly missed by her husband Norm, her daughters and their husbands Stacey and Hans Gabski, Leslie and Donn Bouve and Shelly and Eric Schlenker, her adoring grandchildren Olivia, Karl, Spencer, Jillian, Max, Kate and Sam, her sister Bonnie Eddy, her sister-in-law Carla Larson, her close cousin Helen Yonge, and each of her favorite nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Enloe Hospital south wing staff who gently cared for Tanis in her final hours and embraced the entire family with love and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Handi-Riders or the charity of your choice. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m. in the Commercial Building at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.
