Ted Roy Buckner
March 10th, 1933 - June 19th, 2022
Ted Roy Buckner, 89, of Charlotte, N.C. (formerly of Richmond, Va.), passed away peacefully on June 19, 2022, in Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. He was a resident at Aldersgate United Methodist Retirement Community in Charlotte. Mr. Buckner was born in Madison County, N.C., to the late Ray and Ruby Wild Buckner. He was an honor graduate of Walnut High School and continued his education at Mars Hill College in Madison County graduating with an Associate of Arts in Business. He relocated to Richmond to attend the University of Richmond and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. After graduation, Mr. Buckner enlisted in the United States Army and served his active duty in the Panama Canal zone as a cryptographic specialist in the Communications Center. He completed his military service in the Army reserves. Mr. Buckner worked in accounting, financial and office administration, and facilities management roles with the U.S. federal and Virginia state governments, law firms and other organizations in the Richmond area. During his early career, he also attended night school at the University of Richmond and graduated with a Master of Commerce. Mr. Buckner's commitment to education was evident throughout his life. As an avid reader with a vast personal library, he continuously sought to increase his knowledge and learn new skills. For several years, he was an instructor in the business schools at the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Buckner was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, and a former member of the Providence Baptist Church (Charlotte), First Baptist Church (Richmond) and Bon Air Baptist Church (Richmond.) He served in Sunday School leadership, on the deacon board, and on the budget, stewardship and many other committees. Mr. Buckner was also active in numerous fraternal, professional and civic organizations, and eagerly volunteered in community improvements and resident assistance projects at Aldersgate. Music, photography and travel were some of Mr. Buckner's favorite leisure activities. His most treasured memories were enjoying these activities with his beloved wife JoAnna. Josephine Anna Mistr Buckner, Mr. Buckner's wife of 38 years, preceded him in death. He is survived by extended family and friends. A memorial service and celebration of Mr. Buckner's life will be held on Sunday, June 26 at 1:30 p.m. in the Aldersgate chapel at 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C.
