Obituary Longtime local physician and wife remembered On the evening of November 24, 2015 Ted and Shirley Cull passed away in their home of over 40 years. Ted and Shirley, married fifty-five years, met in Berlin, Germany in 1959 while Shirley was visiting her brother, Russell. Married shortly thereafter, Shirley joined Ted in Berlin, where he was serving in the US army as a physician. Ted, grew up in Fort Recovery, Ohio, was a graduate of Ohio State University and received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Shirley, born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, received her degree in education from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. After completing his military service in 1963, Ted and Shirley moved from Berlin to Denver, where he did his residency training. In early 1964, the family moved to Colorado Springs. There Ted began his private practice as a physician in Manitou Springs, later joining Central Colorado Medical Center where he practiced until his retirement in 1998. Shirley, an educator, dedicated her life to the raising of her children and contributing her time to the local schools as a teaching assistant. Ted was an avid golfer, gardener, and hobbyist, and loved nothing more than taking things apart and finding ways to put them back together again in a better way. He was happiest tinkering around the home, always engaged in multiple projects. He and Shirley shared a passion for antique collection, spending many weekends roaming the old mining towns of Colorado to find unique furniture and utensils. Shirley enjoyed taking these artifacts and refinishing them to give them a new life. The two of them also loved traveling the world, particularly cruising, and doted on their grandchildren Ted and Shirley are survived by their four children, Millard (Carol) of Brighton, Robert (Joy) of Santa Monica CA, Ted (Janae) Jr. of Brighton, and Sharon (Mike) Schmidt of Aurora; six grandchildren, Cora, Caruth, Carol Ashley, and Erin Cull, and Brayden and Delaney Schmidt; and Shirleys brother Russell (Barbara) Smith of North Carolina, and Russells 3 children. The couple was preceded in death by their parents and a granddaughter, Olivia Cull. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, Jan. 23, at Gateway Presbyterian Church, 731 Castle Road, in Colorado Springs.
