Mrs. Teresa C. Ruggeri, 92, of Fort Johnson NY, formally a long time resident of Johnstown, NY has gone to her eternal rest on November 7th, 2016, with her loving family at her side. Born on April 23rd, 1924, in Amsterdam NY, She was the daughter of the late Frank and Angelina Cermella Turo. Teresa was raised on Amsterdam's south side and attended Amsterdam schools. On September 1st, 1946 she married the love of her life Joseph J. Ruggeri. They settled in Johnstown and shared 53 wonderful years together before his passing in 1999. Teresa initially spent time employed in the glove industry and retired from her working years as a dental assistant in Johnstown. Mrs. Ruggeri was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Parish in Johnstown and a member of it's Rosary Society. She was also a former member of the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center and the Johnstown Women of the Moose. Teresa enjoyed creative projects which included; crochet, needle point, and knitting. She was an avid reader of fiction novels. She also enjoyed the company of her close friends. Teresa will be remembered for being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her family is what she cherished most. Later in life she was cared for at home by her daughter Ida and son in-law Mike as well as several devoted caregivers. Optimism, good nature, and faith were the guiding principals which she carried with her throughout her life. Teresa is survived by her son Frank J. Ruggeri and his wife Kathleen of Billerica, MA; her daughter Ida Marie Ford and her husband Michael of Fort Johnson; her daughter in-law, Cheryl Ruggeri of Rapid City, SD; her six grandchildren; Tracy (Chris) Mancini of Gloversville, NY, Angelo Ruggeri (Kelly) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Tonya Walters (Matthew) of Rapid City, SD, Nicole Ruggeri of Chelmsford, MA, Matthew Ruggeri (Katie) of Stoneham, MA, Kristin Mancini of Fort Johnson, NY; and ten great grandchildren; Merella, Michael, Ava, Alyssa, Natalie, Caitilyn, Serena, Ethan, Allen, and Evie. Who she affectionately called her "little ones". Teresa was blessed and loved by her extended family. She is survived by her sister Mary Natole of Amsterdam, NY; her sister in-laws, Marianne Ruggeri of Smithtown, NY, Antoinette Turo of Saratoga, NY, formally of Amsterdam, NY, and Barbara Ruggeri of Ogdensburgh, NY. Teresa is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Turo and Ruggeri families; as well as cousins, dear friends, and caregivers. Teresa was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph; her son Anthony Ruggeri; her parents Frank and Angelina; her brothers, Angelo Turo, Vincent "Jimmy" Turo, Anthony Turo, and Dominick DeTuro; her sisters, Elizabeth Hroncich, Nancy Ouellette, Carmella Karchesky, Susan Roszak, and Edith Furman; her brother in-laws, Frank Ruggeri, Anthony "Tony" Ruggeri, and Charles Ruggeri; and one sister in-law, Carmie Leotta Butler. A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 at 9:45am at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as Celebrant. Interment will immediately follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Route 67, Johnstown, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday November 11th, 2016 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in care of the funeral home office.
