Terry Eugene Fry passed away peacefully at his home on Hilton Head Island, S.C. on March 9th. Terry was born February 10th, 1950, in Allentown, PA to Robert and Geraldine Fry. The Fry’s attended the Christ Lutheran Church where Terry first met his wife, Suzanne. While Sue was his first love, golf was a close second, a game he started playing in his early teens, fashioning his game after his idol Arnold Palmer. Terry attended William Allen High School and after graduating in 1968 as senior class president, he headed to State College to get his B.S. in Accounting at Penn State University. Terry was president of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity his senior year, remained actively involved as a member of the chapter alumni board, and attended countless Nittany Lion football games over the years. After graduation in 1972, Terry and Sue moved to Dallas, TX where he began a 42-year career with PPG Industries. After a successful stint in the Coatings business, he transferred to PPG’s Fiber Glass division where he spent the remainder of his tenure. In 1992, Terry was promoted to General Manager of PPG’s Asia-Pacific Fiber Glass business and relocated his family from Sewickley, PA to Tokyo, Japan for a five-year assignment during which he developed a joint venture with Nan Ya Plastics to manufacture printed circuit boards in Taiwan and mainland China. After returning to Pittsburgh, Terry continued to grow PPG’s position as a global leader in fiberglass production through their Electronics and Specialty Business unit. In 2004, Terry and Sue returned to Asia once again, where he spent the last ten years of his career in Shanghai, serving as Board Chairman of PPG-Nan Ya and a member of PPG’s Chairman’s Council. While in this position, Terry increased PPG’s presence in China by building state-of-the-art fiberglass facilities, more than doubling their capacity to serve the electronics market. He retired from PPG in 2014. Accumulating millions of miles and hotel points as a world traveler, Terry was always on the move, often taking his wife and kids to far-flung destinations in Europe, SE Asia, Australia, Mexico, and more. But despite the travel demands of work, Terry always figured out a way to be back home to cheer on his sons in football, soccer, wrestling, and lacrosse. He was also a proud member of several golf clubs including Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley, PA, and Wexford Golf Club in Hilton Head. Terry will always be known to his family, friends, fraternity brothers, and colleagues as generous, diplomatic, resourceful, charismatic, and reliable. No matter what it was, you could always count on him to get it done. Most importantly, Terry will be remembered for his devotion to his wife Sue through 52 years of marriage. In addition to Sue, Terry is survived by his sons; Greg and Doug (Daniella Duxbury) and his older brother; Barry. In recognition of Terry’s love of golf, donations can be made in his honor to the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation or the Tiger Woods Foundation.
