Tribute & Tallent Funeral and Cremations
Thad Hollenbeck Kyd
June 27th, 1919 - August 5th, 2018
Thad Hollenbeck Kyd passed away Sunday, August 5,2018 at his home in Charlotte NC at the age of 99. Born June 27, 1919 in Green Ridge, MO to John Bailey Kyd and Eula May Hollenbeck. He was the classic American man raised on a farm, played old school gridiron football, worked on a timber crew in Idaho, served his country proudly in WWII in the Coast Guard, making over 30 trips on D-Day delivering troops to Sword Beach on the Normandy coast. Married to his wife Vivian for 70 years, they produced 5 sassy daughters. His bear hugs were legendary, soothing the boo-boos, heartbreaks, and hard times of his small army of daughters, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grand-children and every niece, nephew and friend that entered his home. His strength and compassion were as dependable as the cowboy movie marathons he loved to watch. Always cheering you on at football games, track meets, horse shows and graduations wearing his snappy tweed cap. He retired from Universal-Rundle as an award-winning salesman as well as Sorrell&Assoc and Estul Tool. He was preceded in death by his daughter Vivian Irene, his sister Margaret Kyd Olwine and his wife, Vivian B Kyd. Thad is survived by his Daughters: Margaret Frucht(Jerry) Lisa Frucht(Barry) of Raleigh NC, Cathy Stroud(Steve) of Asheville NC, Linda Kyd of Roanoke VA. Grandchildren: Becca, Jessica, Joshua(Venetia) & Michael Frucht, Caroline & Jacob Stroud. Great Grandchildren: Jayden Cole, Jason & Jayda Frucht. Judging by how long our Dad lived we should all follow his recipe for Life: Love hard, love messy, love big and eat peanut butter. Donation suggestions: ASPCA or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
