Theresa Michelle Doherty-Spinda

Mrs. Theresa Michelle Doherty-Spinda, also known as Michelle, passed away on May 18, 2024, in Summerville, SC, at the age of 57. She was born on August 23, 1966, in Charleston, SC. Mrs. Doherty-Spinda was an independent and headstrong individual with a loving and kind nature. She was known for her fun and wonderful sense of humor, as well as her gracious and loyal personality. Mrs. Doherty-Spinda had a successful career path, starting as an aspiring model and beauty pageant winner in Miss Asheville, NC. She later became a Tough Man contest champion in Asheville, NC, before joining the Asheville NC Police Department in 1995. During her time with the police department, she served as a K-9 officer with her partner Sheila, a Belgian Malinois. Mrs. Doherty-Spinda also served on the Asheville Police Department Honor Guard. She worshipped at Living By Faith Baptist Church in Summerville, SC, and enjoyed hobbies such as playing on the APD Softball team, racquetball, motorcycle riding, bowling, hiking, photography, and traveling. She especially cherished outdoor activities with her sons. Mrs. Doherty-Spinda is survived by her husband, Samuel Jay Spinda, her sons Dennis James Doherty, Samuel Jay Spinda Jr., Jayson Edward Spinda, her grandsons Devin James Doherty and Luke Jaile Doherty, her brothers Joseph Edward Hesse and Carl Dywayne Allen, her parents Edward Issaco and Bev Tam Issaco, as well as numerous aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son Shawn Hesse, her mother Vickie Joy DeBruhl, and her father Robert E Hesse. A service to honor Mrs. Doherty-Spinda's life will be held at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation & Burial Services located at 231 Treeland Drive Suite E, Ladson, SC 29456. May 24, 2024 from 3pm to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Tunnel to Towers.
