Theresa Hightower
December 3rd, 1943 - October 1st, 2014
Obituary http://cloud.muvee.com/openalbum/theresa_hightower/kTAgipModGg A Life Well Lived On Wednesday, October 1, 2014, God in His infinite wisdom called home the soul of his precious child, Theresa Hightower. She passed away peacefully at 70 years of age due to complications of pneumonia, and was surrounded by her friends and loved ones. For twenty-one years, Theresa suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and Transverse Myelitis, which caused a great number of neurological and physical impairments. In spite of all the health challenges Theresa faced, she remained steadfast in her faith in God, and had a very positive attitude. Born on December 3, 1943 in Sylvania, Georgia to Fred and Annie Jackson, Theresa was born the second to last of 11 siblings. Theresa graduated from Central High School (Sylvania, Georgia) in 1961, and moved to Miami, Florida. While there, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at age 18. She attended church with her cousin and his family, and that is where she met William Edward Hightower. He was home on R&R from his Army assignment and was attending church in hopes of meeting a "good church girl". When he saw Theresa, he found what he was looking for. One Sunday after church, they talked and exchanged mailing addresses. William began writing her notes and letters during their four week courtship, and in one of those letters he proposed marriage. She accepted. They were married on August 16, 1962. To that union three children were born; Cheryl, Stephanie and William, Jr. (Eddie). Theresa was very active in the various churches she attended. She served on the Usher Board, the Pastors Aid, the Sunshine Band, YPWW, and in any area where an extra pair of hands were needed. She worked tirelessly and diligently, always with a beautiful smile on her face. She was very well known for her excellent sewing and alteration skills, as well as her sweet potato pies, cream cheese cherry cupcakes, and peach cobblers. Theresa is survived by her sister, Verdell Graham of Lake City, South Carolina, daughters Cheryl Smith (Alvin) and Stephanie Thierry (Everett), a son, William Hightower, Jr. (Veronica), all of Colorado Springs, Colorado, grandchildren Jeremey Ellerton, Cheutney Ellerton, Marcus Hightower and Malcohm Hightower of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a host of cousins, friends and beloved caregivers. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of almost 44 years, William E. Hightower, Sr., sisters Frances Hayer of Hackensack, New Jersey, Willie Ruth Benham and Clara McGee of Atlanta, Georgia, Maggie Blount, of Augusta, Georgia, Jessie Bell Jackson of Sylvania, Georgia, brothers, Samuel Jackson, Sr. of Augusta, Georgia, Darnell Jackson of Newark, New Jersey, Joe Louis Jackson of Teaneck, New Jersey, Jinester Jackson of Miami, Florida, and Fred Jackson, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia.
