Thomas C. Andrus

Thomas C. Andrus, 69, of Amsterdam passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Basset Medical Center in Cooperstown, with his loving family by his side. He was the son of the late Stephen and Sadie Poplawski Andrus, born in Amsterdam, NY on September 28, 1942. Thomas is a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He entered into the United States Air Force in July of 1960. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Tom was a proud veteran. He worked various places over the years and retired from the Greater Amsterdam School District as a custodian. He was a member of the Broadalbin American Legion Post # 337 and the Black Swamp Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Tom also liked to take drives and travel. He was a loving and devoted husband. He was married to the late Loretta DePalma on June 30, 1990. They shared a loving union of 19 years until her passing on May 20, 2009. Loving family includes grandson Brandon Sowle Danielle of Gloversville, whom he raised as his own son, his four daughters Linda Sanda of Colorado, Valerie Furman of Amsterdam, Carol Furman Mark of Hagaman, Susan Hidde Michael of Amsterdam, five grandchildren Benjamin, Alexis, Marissa, Ashley and Caitlin; four great-grandchildren Brianna, Landon, Wesley and Sophia. His brothers James Andrus Linda of Hagaman and Richard Andrus Barbara of Amsterdam. His companion Irene Antonucci also survives along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 10AM. Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery. Contributions may be made in his memory to Basset Medical Center, ICU or to the Veterans Hospital in Albany.
