Thomas "Tom" Maynard Hanson

Thomas M. Hanson “Tom”, age 80, of Seminole, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 17, 2021. He was raised in Euclid, Ohio and attended Cleveland State University (Fenn College). During his time in college, he met the love of his life, Loralie Horvath, and they married in 1965. Upon graduation, Tom was a CPA in public accounting. Tom and Loralie started a family and raised their two daughters in Highland Heights, Ohio. In 1986, the family moved to Seminole, FL, and became small business owners. Tom enjoyed both water skiing and snow skiing. He also enjoyed boating with his buddies and family. Tom played poker up until the pandemic arrived. He was a passionate fan of the Florida Gators, Cleveland Browns, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom and Loralie were members of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo. He enjoyed traveling and after retirement, they visited Alaska, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park. Tom spent a lot of time with his grandchildren when they were young. He was a quiet, gentle man who was devoted to his family. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Hanson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loralie; daughters Lisa Porcelli of Brooksville, FL and Sara (Tom) Prince of Bucks County, PA; grandchildren Kristin, Kaitlyn, and Jennifer Porcelli and Jack, Jared, and Katherine Prince; brother John Hanson of Portland, OR; sister Mary Elsass of Chillicothe, OH; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a Funeral Mass for Tom at St. Jerome Catholic Church on Friday, July 23rd at 11am. Tom will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery following the mass at 12:45pm. The family made the generous decision to donate Tom’s brain to the McKnight Institute at the University of Florida, and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the McKnight Brain Institute by using the link to the left.
