Thomas Theodore Hopkins

October 14th, 1939 - November 7th, 2012

Tom was born to Tom and Rose (Gettig) Hopkins in Portland. He grew up in the West Portland/Hillcrest area and attended West Portland and Markham grade schools and Lincoln High School. He later moved to Southern California, married and had a daughter. After many years he returned to Oregon and lived in Lake Grove for thirty-five years. In 1996 he married Anne Cipolla and had a son. Tom worked at Hooper Detox Center for twenty one years and also had a landscape business. Tom’s idea of a good time was sitting in his beloved 1965 VW bus, listening to jazz on the radio, and watching a long freight train roll by. He planted more than 1,000 trees in the Portland area. Tom was grateful to all the people who helped him in his recovery from alcoholism. He had remained sober since 1983. Tom attended River West Church in Lake Oswego. He is survived by his wife Anne and son Thomas III of Lake Oswego, daughter Jackie Rose of San Clemente, Cal, sisters Sylvia Casey of Sisters, Jeanne Rivers of Portland, and Catherine Phillips of Oakville, Wash, and many members of his extended family. A memorial service will be held for Tom at 2:00pm on Saturday, Nov 17, at River West Church, 2000 Country Club Road, Lake Oswego.

Tom was a great guy. I worked with him in Kindergarten class (Lake Baptist) and so appreciated how he worked with the children. Love to the family.
