Memorial

Thomas Lawrence Jetton, Sr., "Tom", 86, son of Elsie Wilson Jetton and Harvey W. Jetton, passed away at home after a lengthy illness. Born March 27, 1927, he was a WWII veteran, attended Davidson College and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1952. He was also a member of Delta Sigma Pi. Married to Elizabeth Cabell Camp in 1957, Tom was known for his excellence in Sales for NCR. He later formed his own company, IBP Inc., for forty years that pioneered the use of Tyvek products. He was a founder and board member of Providence Day School. He proudly attended all board meetings for the first five years, helping to give the school a strong and lasting foundation. "Dad", as he was affectionately known to his children, was very devoted to his wife "Sug" for 57 years. As he always said, "Mom", Elizabeth Camp Jetton, was the nicest person he ever met. After that, he considered having his four children as his greatest accomplishment. Ever active, his hobbies included listening to the music of Brahms, Chopin and Big Band greats. When not cooking the best NY Strip Steaks ever, Tom could be found building intricate models of ships and planes. A life long lover of culture and travel, Tom vacationed in Europe with Elizabeth and travelled to visit his son Tom and his wife in Belize where he climbed the highest Maya Temple at Caracol at the age of 80. His favorite quote was "Crine a nen elise." from Little Orphan Annie. A member of Sardis Presbyterian Church, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth ("Sugar"), and four children Dr. Tom L. Jetton , Jr. (MariAnne Skodney), William C. Jetton, (Brenda Marshall), Lizabeth H. Jetton, Frank T. Jetton ( Terrell Gates Jetton), and sister, Jackie Jetton Coxe of Big Canoe, Ga. Other surviving family include nephew Dr. Bob Coxe, MD of Nashville, nieces Barbara and Julie Jetton of Princeton, NJ and nephew Mike Jetton residing in Germany. He is predeceased by his brother, H. Wilson, "Uncle Bill", Jetton of Charlotte and godchild John Cornelius of Charlotte. Other special godchildren include William "Bill" Cornelius of Seattle, WA and Meredith Edwards of Hendersonville, NC. Survived by many friends, Dad was a life long resident of Charlotte, born at Old Saint Peter"s Hospital. The family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to all of his caregivers, particularly Dr. Walter Johnson, MD, Dr. Grant Taylor, MD, Dr. Dipika Misra, MD and all of the Nursing and caring staff of Presbyterian Hospital and Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care. A private graveside service was held at Sardis Presbyterian Church Columbarium at 6100 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270. Memorials may be directed to Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC, 28233 and/or Sardis Presbyterian Church. Dad will always be remembered for being a loving husband and father, his quick wit, great stories, jokes and his deep, abiding care of his family and country. Dad, we celebrate your life; rest in peace. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, Inc.
