Thomas J. Lachanski
August 23rd, 1946 - August 5th, 2006
Mr. Thomas J. Lachanski, age 59 of Gloversville, died suddenly on Saturday, August 5, 2006 while kayaking with friends on Peck Lake. He was born August 23, 1946 in Amsterdam, the son of Dorothy Lewek Lachanski and the late Stanley Lachanski. He was graduate of Amsterdam High School and the State University of Oneonta. Tom was employed by the Gloversville Enlarged School District in the English Departmernt for 35 years until his retirement in 2002. He was also a Part-Time Regular for the Gloversville Post Office for 37 years until his death. Mr. Lachanski was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. A sports enthusiast, Tom was the current president of the Gloversville Hoop Club, and was past president of the Fulton United Soccer League. He was also an avid reader. He was married to Marian T. Galvin on November 23, 1968 who survives. Additional survivors include three children, Jennifer E. O'Brien Kevin of Rumson, NJ, Greg N. Lachanski of Peck Lake and Patrick J. Lachanski fiance' Sarah Blades of Manhattan; his mother, Dorothy Lachanski of Amsterdam; a brother, William Lachanski Ann of Amsterdam; two grandchildren, William Thomas O'Brien and Lauren O'Brien, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 am Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. Interment will take place at St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to the Alzheimers Assoc; 85 Watervliet Ave; Albany, NY 12206.
