Pastor Mark Bredholt will officiate. Burial with US Army honors will follow the service at 12:00 PM at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service at the Mausoleum Chapel at Woodridge Memorial Park. Mr. Martin passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at his home. Born in Conway, he was a son of the late Thomas and Exa Lou Martin. Doug was born December 13th, 1947 and grew up in Conway, South Carolina on a tobacco farm. He finished high school, and then received a degree at a technical college. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army. Doug worked hard to take care of his family and retired from Union Camp Papermill. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, drawing, painting, spending time with family and friends, but most of all he loved telling old childhood stories to just about anyone who would listen. His proudest moments were the birth of his daughter, and the day he got to walk her down the aisle. Doug is survived by his loving daughter, Megan Nicole Martin (Melissa Marie Martin) of Lexington; sister, Deborah Dean Martin of Summerville, and a large and loving extended family. In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his brothers, Billy Martin, Dennis Martin; sisters, Betty Lou Harrington, Vera "Tommie" Martin McDonald, Gail Beam; niece, Penny Lewis. The family would like to thank the staff of Amedysis Hospice for their loving and attentive care of Doug, especially Katy, Elizabeth, Darcy, Yalanda, and Keith. Also a big thanks to his special friends Kimberly and Sandra Meetze. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
