Melbourne resident Thomas J. McGrath, Jr. died Monday, December 7, 2020 at the William Childs’ Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida. He most recently resided at Victoria Landing Assisted Living in Melbourne, Florida, where his wife, Ellen, still resides. He was 84 years old. Tom was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. He moved to Florida from New Jersey 30 years ago. In New Jersey, Tom worked for RCA, and lived in South Brunswick. The move to Florida was a transfer to Harris/Intersil in Palm Bay, where he was an engineer. In retirement, he enjoyed photography, golf, cruising, and genealogy, but his greatest joy was in spending time with his grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by his parents Thomas J., Sr. and Veronica E. Burke McGrath, and his brother Francis J. “Frank” McGrath. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Ellen T. Bradford McGrath of Cape Charles, Virginia; his loving children, their spouses, and grandchildren Mary Ellen and Bruce Watts, son Jacob of Indianapolis, Indiana, Thomas J., III and Victoria, children Corey, Antonio and Lire of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, Michael and Larisa, children Megan, Lauren, and Kaitlyn of Mullica Hill, New Jersey, Karen Kelly and partner Manuel Rosales, children Joshua and Samuel of Melbourne, Florida; his loving siblings and their spouses Vincent and Marcene McGrath of Melbourne, Florida and Elizabeth and Dominick Colarusso of Wall, New Jersey, and sister-in-law Betty McGrath also of New Jersey; and many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held today from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.at Beach Funeral Home, 4999 Wickham Road, Melbourne, Florida. The church services will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church tomorrow, 12/10, visitation at 10:30 and mass at 11:00 a.m., 5655 Stadium Parkway, Melbourne, Florida. The burial will be following mass, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida at 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to The Michael J Fox Foundation (Parkinson’s charity) in his memory.
