Life Legacy Thomas (Tom) Payne passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 27,2015 in Salinas, Ca. He was born July 29,1946 in Gainesboro, Tn, and graduated from Corona High School in 1964. Tom was an Air Force, and Army Veteran with a combined total of 25 years. He had tours in Korea, Turkey, Vietnam, and Alaska. He retired from the Army at Fort Ord, Ca. in August of 1985. He then began working for Monterey County 9-1-1, where he put in over 20 years of service, and from there worked for San Benito County 9-1-1 for 3 years where he then retired. Tom was actively involved in the Lions Club, American Legion Post 31, DAV, SCRAMP at Laguna Seca, Clampers, and his children’s schools and activities such as Mission Park PTA, and Hartnell Little League. Tom loved working on models, reading, and watching sports; especially the Washington Redskins. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Merrill Reed Moore, his father Alfred Payne, and his stepfather Charles Moore. He is survived by his loving wife Sherrie Payne of 29 years, daughter Melissa Payne Borrero (Mike), son Brandon Payne, brothers Greg Payne (Eva), Charles (Chuck) Payne, Edwin Reed (Brenda); sister Dorinda Payne, his grandsons Jalen and Dominic Borrero, and his nieces and nephews. Tom was loved by all and will be deeply missed. A Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday July 3,2015, at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Rd., Salinas, CA. We would like to thank the staff and doctors at UCSF Medical Center for all of their support during Tom’s stays at the facility.
