Tom C Wasmer, of Severance, CO was born February 2, 1947 to Lamar and Loretta Wasmer in Sheboygan, WI. On September 3, 2018, after tirelessly fighting esophageal cancer he was taken home to be with the Lord. He spent most of his youth playing outdoors and helping look after his five brothers and sisters. Tom was always a fan of the outdoors and often was spotted going on adventures in the woods, around the gravel ponds, or with a fishing pole, something that he continued to do into his adult life. Tom graduated from New Holstein High School, New Holstein WI, in 1965 and in March of 1966 he joined the Marine Corps. He served as a radio repairman in the Vietnam War and received several accolades for his accomplishments all stating how motived, proficient, and irreplaceable he was to his country. He served four years and obtained the ranking of Sargent and was honorably discharged in June of 1969. During his time in the Marines Tom was exposed to design and engineering, this would prove beneficial as he put these skills to good use eventually owning a HVAC business in his adult life. When Tom returned home from Vietnam he visited a local watering hole, Huddle INN, where his mother worked, and spotted a pretty young lady that would eventually become his wife. He married Betty Ann Roeh, of Keil, WI, on June 26, 1971 in New Holstein, WI. Together they would embark on a wonderful journey. In 1975 they moved to Colorado after their failed honeymoon trip to California landed them in this beautiful state. Tom was enchanted by the beauty Colorado had to offer and together they decided this is where they wanted to start a family and build a loving home. Together they have two daughters, Casey Bastemeyer , and Kelly Harvey. He would teach both of them hard work, love of family, and appreciation for the outdoors. Tom spent many a day model railroading, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family, all things he enjoyed doing. He was especially talented at home designs and enjoyed working with people to help them fulfill their dream home plans. He enjoyed bluegrass and good ole country music. Later in life he found his love in playing the guitar and could often be found in the living room playing along with his favorite CD’s. He learned to play by ear and was quite good at it. Tom loved his children but his grandchildren stole his heart the day they each were born. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Brittany Bastemeyer (14), Samantha Harvey (12), Benjamin Bastemeyer (10), and Weston Leisy (6). Tom was a very proud Papa and the love that he shared with his grandchildren is something that will remain with each of them forever. Cancer may have taken Tom from us entirely too soon but in his fight he showed amazing strength, mentally and physically, and proved that no matter what any doctor may say there is always hope for another day if you commit to making it happen. He is leaving behind a legacy of selflessness, love, compassion, and his impact on this world is irreplaceable and will not ever be forgotten. Tom is survived by his wife Betty of Severance CO, Casey Bastemeyer (Jason) and their children Brittany and Ben Bastemeyer of Windsor CO, Kelly Harvey (Kody Leisy) and their children Samantha Harvey and Weston Leisy of Eaton CO, his brother Bill Wasmer of Elkart Lake WI, and his sister Lisa (Steve) Julien of Cedar Grove WI. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Anthony and Scott Wasmer, his sister Patricia Lippert and sister in law Barb Wasmer. In lieu of flowers Tom requests donations be made in his honor to "St. Jude Children’s Hospital” or "Children’s Hospital Colorado” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. A memorial service will be held at Adamson Funeral Home in Greeley on Sunday September 9, 2018 at 1:00pm. Military services will be held on Monday September 10, 2018 at 2:15 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area "C” in Denver, CO. The family would be honored if you would join us to help celebrate Tom’s dedication to the Marines as well as honor his life and legacy.
