Thuppahige Dona Rita "Rita" Lucy Constance Rodrigoe

February 23rd, 1933 - April 22nd, 2024

Thuppahige Dona Rita "Rita" Lucy Constance Rodrigoe, born on the picturesque day of February 23, 1933, in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka, embarked on her final journey on April 22, 2024, in Chandler, Arizona. Rita's life was a tapestry of vibrant threads, weaving through the fabric of time, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, ambition, and an unwavering spirit of generosity. Raised by her parents, Alfred Leo and Winifred Gamaratne, in the lush landscapes of Sri Lanka, Rita carried the essence of her homeland wherever she went. It was from them she inherited an indomitable spirit and a heart generous enough to encompass all who crossed her path. Her character, a harmonious blend of kind-heartedness, ambition, honesty, generosity, and considerateness, set her apart in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her. Rita's life was a journey marked not just by the geographical distance from the highlands of Nuwara Eliya to the deserts of Arizona but also by the profound impact she had on those around her. Her dedication to her family, particularly her beloved daughter Dinali Antonette Nittianandan, stood testament to the depth of her love and the strength of her commitment to those she held dear. As we gather to bid farewell to Rita, we are reminded of the beautiful complexity of her character. Those fortunate enough to have known her will remember her not just for her visible acts of kindness and generosity but for her less visible qualities: her unwavering honesty in dealing with others, her ambitious spirit that inspired many, and her considerate nature that made her a confidante to those in need. The viewing and rosary for Rita will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, 16223 S 48th St., Phoenix, AZ 85048, on Saturday, May 4th, 2024. It is a moment for us to come together, to celebrate her life, to share the memories of the joy she brought into our lives, and to honor the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy rich with lessons of love, resilience, and humanity. In honoring Rita, we acknowledge the vibrancy she brought into our lives and the quiet ways she inspired those around her to be better versions of themselves. As we remember her, let us carry forward the light of her spirit, illuminating the paths of kindness, generosity, and love for one another. Rita's journey through life was a testament to the beauty inherent in the human spirit, a beacon of hope and compassion that will continue to shine brightly in the memories of those she touched. Farewell, Rita Rodrigoe. Your legacy will live on, a beacon of light guiding us through the complexities of life, reminding us of the power of kindness, honesty, and unconditional love.

To our Darling Rita Achchi !! Although we are overcome with sorrow to learn that you are no longer in our midst, your life is without a shred of doubt one that needs to be celebrated. Your unconditional love, unwavering spirit and unformidable strength has been nothing short of a life lesson and inspiration for us all. Your prayers have always been a guiding force to all of us. Your delicious food was always a hit among us and we long to visit you every week. You have always been a source of strength to each one of us along with Joe seeya, Merl Achchi and Rupa Achchi. I cannot pick one single memory with you as I’ve shared so many since my childhood with you and aunty Dinali. But our time in Velankkanni is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The void you leave behind is one that we will never be able to fill, but we find peace in knowing that you have reunited with your ever-loving siblings and husband in our gods eternal kingdom of heaven. I am deeply saddened by the passing away of my beloved Aunty who in all aspects was the best Aunty in the world. Her greatest joy & happiness was to spend most of her weekends at Ragama with her nephews. This is how Dinali & us became such loving cousins from our childhood. I remember the delicacies A.Rita used to carry for us and the happy times we spent everytime she visited us. It is a very sad day tomorrow when she leaves us to return to her eternal home. Your kind & loving ways will always remain in our hearts A.Rita and you will never be distant from our memory. You are leaving behind a very strong and courageous woman in Dinali who will continue to follow your path and be the same like you. We will treasure all the happy moments spent together and thank you for a good life you led showing the world how to endure pain, be kind & helpful to people. You lived your life always close to Jesus and he will now send his angels to accompany you to your new resting place. Please look down upon your precious daughter Dinali and intercede from God for her to gradually overcome this irreparable loss. It is not going to be easy and it will take a long time for Dinali to recover from losing her confidante, friend and dearly beloved Ammi. Rest in Peace A. Rita till we all meet again soon. Your memory will live on and we will remember you forever. Your loving nephew, Shiranka.

To our Dearest Rita Archchi in heaven, You were a loving soul who showered us with unconditional love. You always welcomed us to your home with warmth and so much joy. You enjoyed spoiling us with numerous gifts, delicious delights and kind words. I’m truly happy to have been able to spend most of my childhood, experiencing your love through countless gestures; especially the mouthwatering delicacies that were prepared with so much love. You always found joy in hosting us and treating us in the best possible way. You were not just a grandmother, but a friend who was always there to listen to my endless “chit chats” as a child and even as a teenager. Rita Archchi, you were one of the strongest women I’ve met. Through the most daunting times of your life, you brought up a girl with love & care and made her a strong woman who can now overcome any and every battle in life, not only for herself but for those around as well; especially her family. You were an amazing lady who taught us how “resilience and love for God” can give us the strength to survive and conquer all obstacles in life. Witnessing the bond among you, Joe Seeya, and Merle Archchi was a testament to the power of family unity, particularly during times of sorrow and thank you for teaching us the importance of being there for one another through good times and bad. Rita Archchi, though circumstances may have kept us apart during the last few years of your life, I’m happy that we were always connected through love and prayer. Thank you for always praying for us when we needed it the most and thank you for continuing to love us from miles away. We will truly miss you, Rita Archchi! May you find eternal peace and love with our ever-loving God and continue to shower us with your love and blessings. With love from: Shehani

Aunty Rita was a great lady with a heart of gold. She was very courageous and bold. After Benny uncle's death she stood by Dinali at all times and more to bring her up to what she is today. She went through thick and thin in her life and of course Dinali was who she looked to for everything.I am so thankful that I had an opportunity to know you Aunty Rita.May your soul rest in peace.

To a dear Sister-in-law, Rita. Your mission here on earth came to an end with your parting back to our Creator. I, being the youngest in our family, was loved by my brother Benny and when you came to our family, you too showed me that love. Talking, laughing and sharing your expert cooking knowledge. I was a frequent visitor to you'Los house and enjoyed those visits even more after my marriage, so much so that we invited both of you to be God Parents to our son Langston. We were well entertained at all times and Langston still remembers the delicious coconut rock, milk toffee and cutlets you made for him. After the demise of my dear brother Benny, you treated us with much more trust more trust and confidence and would await our visits. With the years passing and the distances our visits were fewer, but we kept in touch and were there for each other in good times and in bad. You were a great "Thaththi and Ammi" to Dinali and did go through many hardships making huge sacrifices to please Dinali to guide her in the correct path. You did well bagging a "Best Mum" Trophy too, and I'm sure you were proud to see Dinali standing on her own feet conquering great heights. As you did your part, Dinali did her best, joined by her husband Arju, whom you greatly loved, to give you the best until your last breath as you past over to the gates of Heaven, dear Rita, I say goodbye and hold dear the memories. I will continue the bond with Dinali and Arju. May your soul rest in peace. Amen. Lorraine.

In loving memory of our dear Rita Archchie, Today, as we gather to bid farewell to a remarkable soul, we find solace in celebrating the extraordinary life of Rita Archchie - a lady whose kindness, beauty, and grace touched the lives of all who knew her. To all our cousins, she was not just a grandaunt but a beloved grandmother figure, whose love knew no bounds. Rita Archchie navigated life's challenges with unwavering strength and resilience, never faltering in her dedication to providing the best for her daughter, Aunty Dinali. With the determination of two parents wrapped in one, she embraced every obstacle, every setback, with an indomitable spirit, ensuring that her daughter felt the warmth of both maternal and paternal love. As I reflect on the cherished memories of Rita Archchie, I am reminded of her boundless love and care. Despite the miles that separated us, her presence transcended distance through video calls, each one filled with memories of days gone by - of times spent during their childhood together (my Thaththi, along with his brothers and Aunty Dinali), sharing laughter, joy, and the simple pleasures of life. Her tales painted vivid images of the past, where love and companionship were the pillars of family bonds. One cannot reminisce about Rita Archchie without recalling her thoughtful gestures, like the candied bracelets and necklaces she brought me during her visits to Dubai. To a young and impressionable mind, these gifts were not just tokens of affection but symbols of her thoughtfulness and ability to bring joy to me as a child. Through her stories, Rita Archchie would recall her memories spent with her nephews and siblings, illustrating the time spent over shared meals, friendly card games, and the artistry of homemade delicacies. Her descriptions transported us to a time where love and togetherness were the essence of family. Today, as we bid farewell to Rita Archchie, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her legacy of love, strength, and resilience will endure through the generations. We find comfort in the belief that Rita Archchie has found peace in heaven with Jesus Christ, our Lord. Reunited with her beloved husband, parents, siblings and loved ones who have gone before her. May her soul rest in eternal peace, knowing that she will forever be cherished and remembered with love. Farewell, dear Rita Archchie. Your memory will be a beacon of light guiding us through life's journey, and your love will remain etched in our hearts forevermore. With love, Ashi
