Tim Griffin
August 21st, 1949 - October 8th, 2017
Obituary Tim Griffin was born on August 21, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed away on October 7, 2017, due to complications from ALS. He is survived by his wife, Karen; his mother, Dorothy Griffin; his brother, Robert Griffin; children Slade (Julie) Griffin, Tyson Griffin, and Allie (Jeff) Christopherson; stepchildren Rex Engelking and Kristi (Almy) Hollis; and 13 wonderful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Robert Griffin, and his sister, Kathy Dersch. He experienced rewarding careers at US West and finished his work life at the IBM Corporation. He enjoyed careers in education as a secondary teacher, a college professor at Point Loma Nazarene University, and as Vice Chancellor of Higher Education in Oregon. Tim was born in Detroit, but his formative years were spent in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he graduated from College High School in 1967. He very much enjoyed his friendships from Bartlesville, and those from his college years at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, where he graduated with a bachelors degree in 1971, and his masters in 1972. He then had a rewarding five-year career at Point Loma Nazarene University where he made many lifelong friends from both the students and his colleagues. Following a number of short-term jobs, he began his career at US West in January 1984. This was a life-changing experience that offered tremendous growth, great friends, and where he eventually met his life partner, Karen. Tim started working at the IBM Corporation in 1999, and was on disability from IBM at the time of his passing. IBM offered tremendous opportunities for Tim and Karen, the greatest of those being their assignment in Australia where again lifelong friends were made. Tim is forever grateful for the colleagues and mentors who took the time to help him during his professional life. "Beside my love of being a dad, a granddad, and a husband, the friends with whom we traveled around the world, played golf, rode bikes, skied and drank Scotch with, have made life so enjoyable and memorable," Tim remarked. His faith in God and love of life, along with the support of his family and friends, have made the last five years, though challenging, a time of amazing peace. Visitation will be Friday, October 13, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the funeral service at 11 a.m., at Lakewood Church of the Nazarene, 1755 Dover St., Lakewood, Colorado 80215. A light lunch will follow in the Fireside Room at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery, 7777 W 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
