Tina Gelo McHugh
March 25th, 1934 - July 14th, 2014
Tina Gelo McHugh, 80, our beloved mother and friend, passed away July 14th, after a brief struggle with lung cancer. She was born in Coney Island, NY on March 25, 1934 to Rose Iudica Gelo and Angelo Gelo. Tina graduated from Hempstead High School as valedictorian, and worked as a medical transcriptionist both in NY, and after her move to NC. After retirement, her exemplary work with the Elder Wisdom Circle brought her inclusion in their book of the same name. She had a wonderful sense of humor, played a mean kazoo, and was known to frequently burst out in song. She will be greatly missed. Tina was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Joe and Sal, and is survived by three children; Steve and Amy McHugh of Greensboro, Laurie Abela and Joseph Ezzell of Seagrove, and Vicki and Johnathon Hill of Pleasant Garden; by five grandchildren; Heather and Matt Forestieri of Winston-Salem, Joseph McHugh of Greensboro, Brandy, Holly and Zak Hill of Pleasant Garden, by her partner of 11 years, Frank Brown; one brother, Val; nieces, Laura and Debbie, and nephew, Gary. A memorial service will be held at Saint Pius X Catholic Church on Monday, July 21 at 11:00, with interment of ashes to follow at Jamestown United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made in Tina's name to Hospice of Randolph County, 446 Vision Drive, Asheboro, 27203.
