Toby Rodger Redding

Toby Rodger Redding, 69, passed away May 16, 2016 in Centralia, Washington. He was born June 27, 1946 to Verdon D. and Miriam A. (McHoes) Watters in Newport, Washington. During the course of his life, he also lived in Ilwaco and Marysville, Washington; California; Tennessee; and Idaho. Toby spent his childhood in Astoria, Oregon. He graduated from Astoria High School, and received an Early Childhood Education Certificate from Clover Park Technical College. He served in the U.S. Army, followed by the U.S. Marine Corps, from which he was honorably discharged in 1977. Toby married Julianne Hubbard on July 1, 1978 at the Methodist Church in Rochester, Washington. He worked as a commercial fisherman, logger, ambulance driver, truck driver and cook. In his younger years, Toby enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. In later years, he tended a rose garden, enjoyed home canning, and taking on small building projects. Most recently, he enjoyed adult coloring books, talking to his friends on the phone, and watching old time westerns. Toby was loving and sometimes goofy. He loved a good laugh. He was very supportive of those with whom he was close. He was a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chehalis. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, participating in many functions until his health would not allow him to continue. He is survived by his wife, Julianne Redding; daughters, Dalena A. Redding and Desiree R. Wilde; five grandchildren; a great grandchild; sister, Sharon Travis; and special nephews, Aaron Z. Redding and Robert M. Redding II. He was predeceased by his father, Vernon D. Watters; mother, Miriam A. Redding; stepfather, L. Merl Redding; son, Rodger W. Redding; and brother, Robert Redding.
