Tom ""Tommy"" C Johnson
December 7th, 1947 - December 15th, 2015
January 27, 1947 – December 15, 2015 38 Year Resident of Santa Cruz County A celebration of life is planned in Santa Cruz for a beloved husband, father,"Papa J", brother, and friend. Tom passed away peacefully with his loving family at his bedside. He was 68 years old. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tom was raised in the small town of Oconto, Wisconsin, right outside of Green Bay. Anyone that knew Tom, was aware of his intense passion for the Green Bay Packers. His tattoo of the team’s “G” on his leg was just a part of his loyalty as a fan. Tom was a sports fanatic in the truest sense. He was also proud of the extensive sports memorabilia that he had collected throughout the years. In 1960 he moved to Santa Clara with his family. He attended Cupertino High School and San Jose State University, graduating with a degree in Business Management. While at SJSU, he began his career of 37 years with Lockheed Martin. Hired in 1966 as a payroll clerk in Sunnyvale, he retired in 2002 as Base Manager at the Santa Cruz Facility on Empire Grade Road. Retirement gave Tom the opportunity to become an accomplished traveler. He and Cari visited many destinations including Thailand, China, Australia, Europe, Central America and many Caribbean Islands. He was an avid golfer for years. A familiar face at DeLaveaga Golf Course, he enjoyed working in the Snack Shack and then later on, as a Starter on the first tee. Tom looked forward to his Scottsdale Condo ‘retreat’ several times a year, where he would spend time with dear friends, enjoying the warmth and relaxation. Tom’s smile, quick wit, and generosity; a man of consummate integrity, will be missed by many for years to come. Tom is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 28 years, Cari Johnson of Watsonville, his daughter Carla (Ian); two granddaughters, Cora and Brooke of Maui; his daughter Stacy and “grandpuppy” Maggie of Santa Cruz; his sister Karen (Fred) of San Jose; his niece, Valerie (Michael), his nephew, Mark (Christina), great- nephews, Benjamin, Ryan, Joel and great- niece, Elizabeth, all of San Jose. Friends and family are cordially invited to DeLaveaga Golf Lodge on Tom's birthday, January 27th, 2016 to celebrate his life, beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, any kind acts of charity can be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital www.stjude.org or to your favorite charity.
