Toula and Pete came to the United States on March 25, 1955, coincidentally, Greek Independence Day. They came to Charlotte and started their new life in America. They brought with them their son Gus, and daughters Theoni and Irene. Son, George was born in Charlotte in 1957 to complete the family. Yiayia Toula as she was lovingly called, loved her Orthodox faith, her family, grandbabies most of all and later great-grands. She was a strong woman, and worked many jobs and especially loved her “kepo” garden. She did not mind getting dirty. Above all, she was a wonderful cook. No one ever went hungry. Toula is survived by her sons, Gus Mandrapilias and his wife Geary, and George Mandrapilias; daughters, Theoni Carter and Irene Mandrapilias; grandchildren, Jeanne Drexler and her husband, Matt, Dean Mandrapilias and his wife Meghan, Erin and Adrienne Carter; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Ethan Fuller, Hudson and Sohayla Drexler and Norah Mandrapilias. She is also survived by her brother, Jimmy Kaperonis and his wife, Litsa, sister Pitsa Minakakis and her husband Jimmy and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Toula’s memory to Holy Trinity Cathedral Foundation or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Attn: Pew Restoration Project, 600 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203. May Her Memory be Eternal. Feel free to leave the family your condolences via the Tribute Wall provided.
