Toxey Ashmore Hall

Colonel Toxey A. Hall, Sr. (retired), a long-time resident of Merritt Island, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members, on January 24, 2020. He was 86 years old and living in Englewood, Florida with his wife. Funeral services will be held at Merritt Island Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services for the family will take place on Friday, January 31, at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia. Toxey is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sara and four children: Toxey Hall Jr., (wife Debbie) of Tampa and Melbourne Beach; Donald Hall (wife Laura) of Mooresville, North Carolina; Sara (Sally) Waggoner (husband Skip) of Port Charlotte, Florida; and Beth Gabrini (husband Carl) of Dalton, Georgia, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Toxey E. Hall, M.D., his mother Adrienne Hall, two brothers, Miles Causey and Francis (Butch) Hall, and two sisters, Cherry Roussel and Holly Hall. Toxey was born in Atlanta, and grew up in Atlanta and Belzoni, Mississippi. He graduated from Druid Hills High School and attended the University of Georgia before being commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force in 1953. He met his wife Sara while serving as a flight navigator at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah. After completing active duty, he earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech, and later, a Master of Engineering from the University of Florida. Toxey moved to Merritt Island in 1965 and enjoyed a long career as a Communications Systems Engineer, including 10 years with Pan American World Services at Patrick Air Force Base and 22 years with Harris Corporation in Palm Bay before retiring in 1999. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for 40 years. Toxey was a faithful member of Merritt Island Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. He served nine terms as an elder, taught adult Sunday School classes for 20 years and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Merritt Island Lodge No 353 Free and Accepted Masons, serving as their chaplain for several years, and he served as a volunteer tour guide at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville. Toxey will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Memorial gifts may be made to the Merritt Island Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund.
