Tracy M Buttars
March 1st, 1956 - April 21st, 2024
Forever in Our Hearts
During a huge snowstorm on Feb 29, 1956, Tracy was welcomed into the loving arms of his mother Bonnie Condie Buttars and Father, Boyd Daniel Buttars at their home in Cornish Utah. Even though Tracy was born 5 minutes before midnight on leap day, his legal birthday was recorded by the hospital when they finally arrived on March 1st. He was the third in line of seven children: David Boyd, Rick Condie, Blair Daniel, Brooks Michael, Darin Robert, and his favorite baby sister Angela.
On May 23, 1982 he married his best friend and adventure accomplice Wendie Harmer in Las Vegas, at the Candlelight Wedding Chappell on a Sunday night at 10PM. Even though they tried to elope, several family members and friends beat them there. Most everything they did together was an adventure, including their wedding. For 43 years they were successful in blending our family who will always cherish fond memories of cruises, vacations, sporting events, family gatherings, and Santa visits.
Tracy graduated from Skyview High school, ISU Tech college, and earned a bachelor degree from University of phoenix when he was 40 years old, which set an example for his family that you are never too old for higher education. Working for the aerospace industry over 34 years, he never complained about overtime or workload. His true work ethic from being raised on a farm provided another great example to us all. In fact, he used to say he wished that his children could spend just one week on Grandpa Boyd’s huge poultry farm to show us what life was all about.
Tracy played as hard as he worked and made a regular camping trip just as exciting as their exotic trips to New Zealand, Australia, and Greek Islands. If there was any reason to celebrate and have a good time, he would find it. He spent numerous hours tending to his redneck pool, his yard, and homes to create a fun space for our family to gather. He treasured taking the family to ballgames, tournaments, road trip adventures, and family vacations, so he could spend quality time with those he loved.
The Christmas lights and ornaments Tracy decorated their home with every year were like a Griswold movie. He actually won the city Christmas light contest so many times in their city, they finally asked him to be a judge.
Everyone who knew Tracy, will agree he loved being involved in competitive sports. He was a champion bowler, pool table hot-shot, golfer, pickle baller, and then there was softball... he played several times a week in his youth and later excelled in coaching the game he loved. There are many girls that not only learned to play ball, but also received scholarships to play fast-pitch softball because of Coach Tracy. For over 60 years, his love of the game never waivered and when he retired, his dream to play senior softball came true. The Sun City softball league embraced him and he made 100’s of friends doing what he loved. Tracy played his last ballgame the same way he lived his life, with gusto, excitement, skills, and appreciation for his team mates.
As a devoted member of the benevolent and protective order of Elks for 45 years, Tracy's leadership roles are still recognized. His commitment to youth charities, veteran services, scholarship programs and the national ritual competition, ended in a win. But he always said the friendships and lifelong connections were the real win for him.
With his vibrant personality, he embraced life to the fullest. Tracy wouldn't want anyone to be sad, he would want you to remember the fun times around the campfire, on the golf course, at the ballpark, RV traveling, concerts, and at his favorite social gathering spots. When ever you think of him he would want you to smile...
Tracy's journey was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Boyd and Bonnie Buttars, his father-in-law and confidant, Eugene Harmer, his brothers David B Buttars and Blair D Buttars, his sister-in-law Laurie Harmer Conger, and his grandson, Ezra Hayes Parish.
He is survived in death by his wife Wendie, his 3 children, Blair T (Betsy), Nicholas, Chelsea (Logan); his four siblings, Rick (Julie) Buttars, Brooks Buttars, Darin (Stacy) Buttars, Angie (Wade) Harman; his mother in law Brenda Harmer, and many nieces and nephews that he loved.
His legacy of love and laughter lives on through us all. To his grandchildren who held a special place in his heart. Keaton Nicholas, Courtney Lyn, Kadin, Kyler, Rowan Lane, Milo Trace, and Jovi Jean, Papa's love will forever be your guiding light.
