V. George Lander, Jr.

June 2nd, 1939 - July 14th, 2023

Vivian George Lander, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday July 14, 2023, after a short illness. He was the only child of Vivian George Lander, Sr. and Josephine Milner Lander of Columbia S.C. Mr. Lander is survived by his sons, Billy (Marsha) Lander and Jeffy Lander. George was the proud grandparent of Haley, Tripp (Rachel) and Tyler Hylton. Bill (Ashlyn) and Hunter Lander; great-granddaughters, Ida Blane Hylton, Mary Ellen Lander, Lily Kate Lander and baby girl Lander. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Claudia Lander (2012) and his daughter, Lisha Hylton (2017). George served in the Navy in the early 1960’s. He had a long and successful career in real estate, construction, and residential development in the Lexington area. George began his career in building as a salesman for Stier Supply and Oswald Lumber. George instilled in his workers and his family a “Do it right or Don’t do it all” attitude which carries on today. In his later years, George enjoyed spending time at home sitting by the pond watching the ducks, geese and beavers. He also enjoyed military history, antique firearms and metal detecting. George always let the kids in the neighborhood fish in the pond whenever they wanted, and the second generation still continues to enjoy the pond. He had a heart as good as gold and was always willing to help someone out when needed. A Celebration of Life service for George Lander will be held at 12:00 PM, Thursday, July 27, 2023, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Interment, with US Navy honors, will follow the service in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) in the Mausoleum Chapel at Woodridge. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all of those who lovingly took care of George during his final days.
