Mr. V. James "Jim" Mazzariello, 88, of Gloversville, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown. He was born March 31, 1922 in Gloversville, the son of the late Thomas and Rose Esposito Mazzariello. He was educated in Gloversville schools. Jim served his country proudly In the United States Army Infantry from 1942 until 1945 where he attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart for his brave service. He was employed by General Electric for thirty years. On November 3, 1945, Jim married his sweetheart, Mary "Ann" Ottalagano. She predeceased him on December 1, 2008. They shared sixty-three wonderful years together. Jim absolutely adored her. Even with the signs of dementia evident, one of the last anniversary cards he purchased for her said "from the moment I saw you, I knew that you would always be the love of my life." Jim was an excellent plumber and he liked carpentry and gardening. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was generous and self sacrificing and would do anything for his family, particularly his grandchildren, Scott and Amy. He delighted in remembering how he bought them their first bicycles or big wheels, picnics in the back yard and the shopping trips to the mall- where they managed to innocently gravitate toward the toy store! His face would light up at Scott's appetite and smile or at Amy's affectionate and loving nature and at how much they loved their grandfather and he them. His daughter, Barbara, an only child, was the quintessential "daddy's girl". He doted on her and she absolutely adored him. Family was all important to him and always came first. He was devastated to be predeceased by his wife, his brother Mike and his sisters, Mary and Sue. Right until the end he was always a gentleman, making sure it was "ladies first" by opening doors for them and respecting their opinion. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Mosconi Steve of Gloversville; two grandchildren: Scott Mosconi Kenyon of Ballston Spa and Amy Mosconi of Atlanta and the newest addition to the family, just born this past Monday, great grandson Logan Mosconi. In addition to his wife, Jim was predeceased by a brother, Michael Mazzariello and two sisters, Mary Palladino and Sue Brown. Family and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, October 13 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams presiding. Interment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of NY, Pine West Plaza, Bldg 4, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205 or a charity of one's choosing.
