Van Alexander passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, he was the son of the late Frederick Leslie Alexander and Elizabeth Stewart Alexander. Van was a 1950 graduate of West Lafayette High School. In 1954, he graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a degree in Business Administration. Van then enlisted in the Army in 1955. After serving in the Army, Van made his living working first in sales with Personal Products Corp. but found his true calling in the world of mortgage banking. He was Branch Manager /Vice President of National Homes Mortgage Corp., Columbia; Branch Manager/Vice President of Lomas and Nettleton Mortgage Co., Columbia. After retirement, he decided to try his hand at real estate working with Hendrix Builders of Lexington, Federal Realty of West Columbia and the VA. He tried to fully retire but staying home was not for him, so he worked at Enterprise Car Rental in West Columbia as a transporter. His last job was one that brought him great joy greeting people at Walmart in Lexington, where everyone loved to see “Mr. Van”. His hobbies, aside from his quick wit and dry humor, were a love of classic cars, watching and recording the Indianapolis 500 race, NASCAR racing, woodworking and reading his magazine collection. He also was a member of the Church of Christ.
Van is survived by his daughters, Leslie Alexander of Sparta, TN, Leigh Alexander Ledbetter of Cookeville, TN, Stephanie Joyner Mitchell of Lexington; former son-in-law, C.
