Vanoy was born January 28, 1924 in Rockwood, Tennessee and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee until the family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1936 due the the economy of the great depression. Vanoy’s parents opened a Bowling Alley in Wichita Falls named the Tennessee Lanes, she graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1941 and worked for her parents at the bowling alley. Vanoy met her husband, who was stationed at Sheppard Field during WWII, at the bowling alley and they married in 1942. In 1959 Vanoy and her husband and children, Charles, Dorothy and Michael, moved to Denver. They were very active members of St Mary’s Episcopal Church in south Denver. Vanoy took on the duties of Priest Wife beginning with her husband Mac’s attendance at Nashota House seminary in Wisconsin, and happily fulfilled that role while he was Vicar of an Episcopal church in Maryville, Mo. for the next 7 years, and subsequent years back in Colorado. She had many friends among the Episcopal Clergy. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado in 1986 and she and her husband moved to Meeker, Colorado. They had homes in both Meeker and Queen Valley Arizona where they spent most winters and had many good friends in both locations. Vanoy loved to sing and dance and when she was younger, she and her sister Evelyn were part of a small ensemble. Evelyn played piano and Vanoy sang pop songs such as songs from Porgy and Bess. They sang and played on a radio show in Tennessee (WAPO) from 1936-1937. She later learned to tap dance and performed for soldiers while she was in high school. She was very influential in passing along her love of music to her children. Later in life Vanoy wrote her autobiography: ‘Affectionately Noysie’. (Pronounced ‘noisy’) Noysie was a nickname given to her by her late husband. She will be missed by all who love her, both family and friends .
