On August 3, 1936, Velma Jean was welcomed into the world by her parents Deloss Leon and Edith Zella Olson. She was born in Caldwell, Idaho and attended Notus Schools where she met her sweetheart JA (Jess Arthur) Marchbanks whom she married November 20, 1955 at the Notus First Baptist Church. The couple bought their first farm a mile outside Notus, began farming, and have resided there 59 years. Velma was employed by Mountain Bell Telephone Company until Vicky, David, and Cindy were born. Velma was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved being outside helping JA with every part of farming. When Velma wasn't helping JA, she was a Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, election board judge, and seamstress. She especially enjoyed sewing for her seven grandchildren and Project Linus, traveling, baking, and hosting pinochle parties for the neighbors. No friend or grandchild could leave her home without a full meal or a chocolate chip cookie. In 2009, Velma's health began to decline. On May 8, 2015 Velma went to see her beloved Jesus. She leaves behind her husband JA, her two daughters and sons-in-law: Cindy and Ben Rowell, and Vicky and Tom Connelly; her son and daughter-in-law: David and Sheila Marchbanks; her seven grandchildren: Joshua Rowell, Timothy Connelly, Jessica McAnally, Andrew Connelly, Kasey Woodworth, Jason Marchbanks, and Rebecca Marchbanks; her two great granddaughters: Jaycee Marchbanks and Lynne Woodworth; her sister, Wanda Blele; her brother, James Olson; and her aunt, Vivian Winfree. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Raymond. At Velma's request, there will be no funeral service. Instead of flowers or delivering food, her family requests donations be given to the American Diabetes Association (1111 S. Orchard #234, Boise, ID 83705).
